.308 and 7mm Rem Mag for Whitetail Deer. 7 mm Mag is overkill, but I got a good deal on a Tikka years ago and hope to hunt the wide open spaces out West someday.

Rodents and blackbirds in the backyard with a .177 air rifle...

12ga: ducks, squirrels, doves
16ga: deer
20ga: pheasant

.22lr: squirrels
7mm mag: deer

compound bow: deer

Hopefully will expand that list as time goes on, but I grew up in a non-hunting (not to be confused with anti-hunting) family, so opportunities growing up were limited. Now that Im grown up I have the time and interest, but land access is my biggest hurdle to more frequent hunting.

As far as killing deer goes, I have been impressed the most by the 30-06.

I have also carried 7.62x39 40sw .25acp 32swl and 38sw while hiking and hoping for a wabbit

Just for the perversity of it, I wanted to see if I have potted things with as many cartridges as RCModel. I haven't, but then I have a few guns lying around in cartridges I have never shot anything with but a target like 38 Long .455 Eley, 45 auto rim, 351 Winchester and 401 Winchester. To the best of my memory I have carried but never shot any game with 25 ACP, 32 S&W Long, 32 ACP, 380ACP, 32 S&W, or 38 S&W.

Here's my list:

Awesome thread, OP!! Definitely can't recall all of them, but here is as best I can recall.

Target flies: .BB gun, .177 air rifle, .22LR. :D

Rabbit: .22LR, .410, 20ga, 16 ga, 12 gauge.

Squirrel: 22LR, .410, 20ga, 16ga, 12 gauge.

Pheasant: .410, 20ga, 16ga, 12ga.

Chukkar: .410, 20ga, 16ga, 12ga.

Tennessee Reds: 12ga

Duck: .410, 20ga, 16ga, 12ga.

Varmints: .177 airgun, 22 cal airgun, .22LR, .223 Rem, .22-250 Rem, .244 (6mm) Rem, .25-06 Rem, .257 Wea Mag, .270 Win.

Whitetail deer: .244 (6mm) Rem, .25-06 Rem, .257 Wea Mag, .270 Win, .308 Win, .300 Win Mag, .300 Wea Mag.

Russian boar: .270 Win, .375 H&H Mag, .444 Marlin, .45 ACP, .45-70 Gov't.

Ram: .300 Wea Mag

That's as close as I can recall. The case of the .270 Win used on Russian boar, was actually shot by my friend, as he hunted with me. He borrowed my rifle. Never in my life saw a boar drop so fast, as those 140 grain projectiles!

I have shot a lot of stuff with a lot of different things, spend more time hunting for what I am going to hunt with next though.

Like everyone else my age, I started off with dad's Savage 22, then I got a .410 single shot H&R, then:

30/06
25/06
22/250
220 Swift
218 Bee
17 Hornet
222
22 Magnum
12 gauge
Then I went through a lot of deer/antelope rifles in everything from 243, 6mm, 257 Roberts, 7 mm, 270, 280, 7 mag and 300 WM
But I always came back to my old 25/06, which is now a .257 Weatherby

Now mostly pdogs:

Building a 222 and a 6br as we speak.
