I own a 2011 Hyundai Elantra. When put in "Park", all 4 doors automatically unlock, even if the engine is still running. My 2008 Ford Ranger p/u does not do this.

This feature can be disabled on most vehicles. Did it on a Toyota and a Honda. Both required a very specific sequence of manipulating the key/gearshift/dashboard buttons. Found the instructions on discussion boards similar to this one but dedicated to the make of vehicle. Google can probably help you.

None of my older cars do this--two, out of three, lock automatically upon putting the car in gear. Glad to know this as I will check that out when it comes time to update to a newer used car.
