I see a lot of people talking carbine vs mid-length gas systems. What about rifle length systems on a 16 inch barrel? what are the major pros and cons of one?

The problems you start you run into with rifle length gas on a 16" barrel is the lack of barrel past the gas port. That can lead to finicky functioning with some ammo.

A gas pressure booster like that found on Krinkovs helps with that problem. BSW

Exactly. The bullet leaves the barrel and pressure drops before there is enough to properly cycle the action.

Gas ports are usually about 2/3 of the way down the barrel for this reason.

Incidentally, the gas port on the Desert Eagle is right at the chamber mouth, and the tube runs the length of the barrel. Kinda goofy, but it works.
