I can't think of a single State where you are not required by law to put your physical address on your driver's license.
Well, you can think of Montana then :p

Just got my DL renewed last fall and still the same deal. They asked me if I wanted to change it. I just said "No" and that was it.

Part of the issue for me, is that my physical mailing address is actually in a different county than where I actually live, believe it or not. That is because the rural mail delivery in our area is sorted out of a PO in a town in the next county. So that town (which we don't live in) and that zip code is our physical mailing address.

Most folks - like the voter registration clerk, fortunately - can figure this out, but I figure it is simpler to not have to argue with folks that say "you say you live in Xxxxx County but your address is in Yyyyyyy County :confused: "

On renewal, I find it hard to believe that your State doesn't provide for your license to be mailed to a seperate location,
Believe it! and I expect the way OK does it is more the norm than the exception. We have to go to the local Tag Agency and get a new picture taken each time the DL comes up for renewal. Pay and go home with new license and new picture.

Any other way makes no sense. If the state just kept on using the same old picture and just mailing you a new license the picture on mine would be 20 years out of date. I'm 40lbs heavier and a whole lot greyer than I was 20 years ago.

You have me confused here, What address is on your driver's license: is it the address of the building that you live in (i.e., your residential address) or the address of the building that receives your mail? And if it's just your mailing address, is the State aware of this? Did you inform the State of this? Every State code that I am aware of requires your (habitual) residential address to be listed on your license so that they can serve warrants, etc. It may be that you got away with this because it's not obvious that the address is only a mail drop, is it a P.O. Box address?

A box number on a rural route is a physical address. That's where the box and residence are located.

Here in the PRK my CDL has a PO Box number on it. I also carry a small tan colored card that has my street address on it. that is carried with the CDL. I have never had a problem with using those two tpes of address ID.

Addresses

I've several addresses

Two are PO Boxes

Two are street addresses. I also have some vacant land but anything regarding that goes to one of the PO boxes.

One of the street addresses does not have rural mail delivery unless I wanted to put a box a mile away on the highway, no thanks. So, I use a PO Box there two miles away on the highway. This one is well down a private road and yet further down a private drive

The other street address is both a physical and a mailing address.

The second PO Box is no longer tied to a phyisical address, but I settled my parents estate there and just keep the box and a ported local phone number (parents old number).

It used to be there was no requirement in some states. I recall having DLs and vehicle registrations with only a PO Box address. I think it might have started regarding Commercial DLs (I have one) and they started wanting a physical address.

Well, that started some problems because one post office handled address deliveries and another handled the mail going to the local post office... talk about confusion. Although you might have a street address, in the local PO zipcode, to get local street delivery you had to use a third city name and zipcode (but that city's PO didn't handle street delivery mail). I just kept the PO Box. So, any official mail going there has a somewhat worthless street address and a valid PO Box... Go figure.

Anyway, I still have some motorcycles (@$14 per year reg), a jeep and other stuff registerred there all now with a "street" address and PO Box # :)

Maybe I'll become a resident of a state with no income tax.

Maybe Florida?

I spend a lot of time in an RV and there are now an awful lot of RVr's who live full time and only have an address of convenience. I wonder how that works out with the BATFE now?

Looks like I was wrong, Montana at least allows the mailing address on the Driver's License. Must be a western State thing. Every place I have had a license, all east coast States, has required the residence address.

Heres the Montana Code 2003:

61-5-111. Contents of a driver's license, renewal, renewal by mail, license expirations, grace period, and fees for licenses, permits, and endorsements -- notice of expiration.

(2) (a) The department, upon receipt of payment of the fees specified in this section, shall issue a driver's license to each qualifying applicant. The license must contain:
(i) a full-face photograph of the licensee in the size and form prescribed by the department;
(ii) a distinguishing number issued to the licensee;
(iii) the full legal name, date of birth, Montana mailing address, and a brief description of the licensee; and
(iv) either the licensee's customary signature or a digital reproduction of the licensee's customary signature.

My California DL has a PO Box. I live in the city, have mail delivery, I just prefer having a PO Box.

The only time I've been pulled over with it, the deputy acted like he'd never seen one before.
