Detachable magazines on bolt action hunting rifles?

I also have a Tikka now, and I would like to afford an extra mag, but it's too bad it's really expensive.

As for detachable mag, I like it, there's no reason not to have it. Also, it makes it possible for making the Tikka receiver the shape it is, it is definitely a stronger design when you have steel all around the ejection port instead of having top half of receiver open.

Fella's;

Your gun shop may not carry Tikka mags, but they really aren't hard to get ahold of other than the cost. Have the FFL holder of your choice contact Jerry's Sport Center, Inc., and order. Online at: www.jerryssportscenter.com. And I have no affiliation with them other than customer, but I do know they list Tikka mags.

What is the utility of a detachable magazine on a bolt action rifle?

None. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Well, wait, ok, there is ONE advantage. But if and only if it has a "Halfway-in" click/notch, to where the top round is not picked up when cycling the bolt. This allows you to put the mag in the half-notch position, cycle to unload the chambered round, and close the bolt without picking up a new round, but not necessarily having to completely unload (and store the mag somewhere on your person) either. If it doesn't have the halfway notch, it has no utility. IMO.

I think it would be better just to have fixed magazine, and never have to worry about losing it.

You got that straight! Not to mention that a fixed magazine keeps dirt and water out of the action better than a detachable.

Cabelas sells the Kwik Klip for Remington 700 actions. It drops into a BDL stock; other stocks require inletting. It comes with a 4 round magazine plus 10 rounders are available. The 4 round box allows single loading with no trouble. I have this setup and it works great!
