I recently retired from community college teaching in Detroit. Before Michigan preempted CCW/CPL licencing, my students often expressed fear of living in their own neighbourhoods. Since getting CCW/CPLs became relatively easy, I have not heard such talk. Typically, in a class of 25, two or three women would be licensed — but rarely one of the men. I carefully did not ask whether that was a) because they did not have one, b) because they were just not telling me, or because they could not meet the requirements.
I always offered detailed informational handouts to those interested.
