brick violence

this took place in the comments section. I had to share it:

Just saw a story on CNN about a 10 year old boy found guilty of smashing a homeless vets’ face in with a brick. The problem is obvious. Our brick laws are some of the weakest in the world. Anyone of any age can walk into any Home Depot and buy an unlimited amount of bricks with no questions asked, no background check, no ID, no permit, just cash-n-carry.
Where is the outrage?
Brick Control Now!

Kaveman,
I can appreciate your concern, but it’s not necessarily all bricks that are the root of violence. What we need to get rid of are the “assault bricks.” As you may or may not know, most bricks are made with fired clay. These in itself are not really dangerous. It’s the limestone based bricks that are causing all the violence. Limestone is inherently harder and more abrasive and lighter, thus the wielder of the brick can use accurized “spray throwing” of the bricks. Because they are lighter they can be thrown from the hip at a higher rate of speed and accuracy.
In addition, we need to limit the number of bricks that can be purchased at one time to one per month. Now I understand that home builders will be terribly burdened by this law, since it will now take someone an average of 30,000 years to complete the exterior of their home, but limiting the .04% violence caused by “assault bricks” certainly outweighs the 99.94% of legally owned and used bricks by decent people.
Lastly, we should immediately enact “brick bans.” There is no reason why the Government should not be able to tell us what types of bricks we can use. Now I understand that basically, all bricks have the same function, but there are some that look very “scary” and it is these that should be banned. The ones with dust suppressors and gripping accessories are the worst. High capacity pallets (you know, pallets holding over 10 bricks) should also be banned, since a brick wielding psychopath will be severely hindered if he had to use 10 pallets of 10 bricks instead of 1 pallet of 100 bricks.
We all need a “common sense” approach to bricks. Our “children’s” (yes, I am including the 20-24 year old children in this demographic too) lives depend on it.

RyanW,
Funny thing, I just remembered that the High School I went to had an entire brick exterior. What were they thinking sending immature hormone factories into an entire campus constructed of super ninja deadly weaponry!
Maybe we could compromise and force people who claim to need flying chunks of rock-death to take a safety course in how to properly build a chimney or back yard smoke pit. They would then be issued a 1-year license for the low low price of just $29.95 by our beloved government. Records of all sales and permits holders could be stored in a huge data base so politicians could track and monitor these dreadful brick owners.
Bricks and mortar should also be stored separately. if you think that a single brick will do damage to your face, just imagine someone throwing half a wall at you.

please post a link so others can join in the fun

What I have always found infuriating is a lack of anti gun websites that allow discourse.

I can't seem to trackdown the part of the thread with this line of conversation in it, but pretty much every place you can post a comment is filled with pro-gun support and sarcastic jargon such as this. check it out:

Quite a few of those guys are in the pro-common sense side (by that, I mean proper common sense, not the Brady's definition).

I think a few of the posters there also post here.

Yeah. Keep posting on the Brady website. I'm sure they're not keeping track of your ISP address for future use........

i couldn't agree more. i would advocate a total brick ban though. it's done wonders in other parts of the world! if we make the entire country a brick-free zone, we won't even have to worry about it. we can build our houses from sticks and grass. you'll notice the indian nations never had a problem with brick violence because they knew how to handle their business. america is the only 1st world country that still even ALLOWS bricks. stuco is another viable alternative to bricks. why, adobe structures in mexico have been absolute havens for peace, comfort and, most of all, security!

Don't forget the Brick Trace Data....we need to know where these deadly bricks are coming from.

They also need to outlaw brick transfers between private individuals......there's a HUGE Brick Show Loophole.....

Bricks?

Well, then, we need to limit the production of music that glorifies bricks!

I mean, there was that group with Ian Anderson, Jethro Tull, that had a song with "brick" right there in the title!

Oh, the humanity!
