Diamondback Firearms - Improved P3AT?

They are planning a 9mm but given the success of the P3AT, LCP, P238,....I see why they chose the 380 platform first.

In the last year I have had more pocket pistols go through my bound book that any other type, with the vast majority being 380. PF9 here and there.

but the choice of caliber would appear unfortunate for a successful launch.
Tiny .380 pocket guns are the hottest selling firearm there is right now.

Tried to buy any .380 ACP ammo lately?
There isn't any.

The Diamondback definitely doesn't offer an improvement in terms of looks. That is one ugly cuss--like the larval offspring of a S&W M&P and a Glock. Seems like a mishmash of trendy fripperies like forward cocking serrations and a hooked trigger guard. Can't help but question the wisdom of using such a blocky design for a pocket pistol.

Still, it may run like a top. Who knows?

I agree, you would think a rounded trigger guard would make it a better pocket carry.

Hmmm... so most folks are clamoring to buy guns they can't get ammo for? Well, I wasn't a marketing major, so obvioulsy I'm clueless! :D

Gee, that is one ugly gun. Why would anyone go with an unproven company and an unproven clone of the Kel Tec and LCP. Why .a 380 ? The round is not well liked by most for SD and I think it will be a hard sell for them. I'll stick with my NAA380 and LCP at least they look a lot better.

A blocky pocket gun. That is heavy and not too compact. Other than cut/paste the exterior of three good striker guns (glock,xd,m&p) and making o
it a .380 what is there to do about it. Think they are late to the race and wearing sandals.

InkEd typed - That is heavy and not too compact

Uh, HEAVY? 8.8ozs empty. Are you kidding?

same length as a KelTec P3AT and .2" of a inch higher.

and the P3AT is .02 Wider than the DB380

This thing is small and light.

The price isn't what I'd call "competitive". So is there a "wow factor" somewhere?

No offense chuck, but I thought it was funny that you slam the idea of an unproven clone, then you praise your LCP. (Pot meet kettle) I know, I know, I know; the LCP is NOW proven, right? Then you question the caliber choice, but wait, that's the choice you made?

Like I said, no offense, just funny stuff!:D

The LCP Is a theft stolen design of the Kel Tec.

After Ruger messed up the initial production I suppose the got their theft design fixed.

I think it looks interesting, though there are a lot of players in the 380 pocket pistol market right now. Ruger, Kel Tec, Taurus, Kahr, NAA, Walther (9mm or 380?) and a few others that I am forgetting all have a similar single stack pocket pistol.

From what I've read, people comment that the Diamondback is well made. But I think their price is close to Kahr, and Kahr has a more well-known name and a pretty hefty advertising budget, which is going to be difficult to overcome regardless of the quality of their gun.

Well, yes. But it kind of happened the other way around. In other words, there's no .380 ammo available because everyone is clamoring to buy .380 pocket guns. I know, 6 of one, half dozen of the other. I knew .380 was scarce when I bought my LCP a few weeks ago. Didn't stop me from wanting it bad enough to buy it. I found TONS of name brand .380 FMJ at the gun show that day, and foolishly only bought 2 50-round boxes. Now, I can't find it anywhere. Oh well, next gun show I guess.

I case you dont know people are buying 380s even when they know they cannot get ammo for it. The magazines and word of mouth have done wonders to make everyone think that just because it says 380 on it, it must be the best gun ever.

I personally like it. I like the looks. I like the size and weight. I like the steel trigger instead of plastic. I like adjustable sights. I like the MSRP of $430 which should come in around the same price as a P3AT or PF9. I like the bobbed tail.
Who cares if it is a 380. It's a deep concealment firearm.

There is an opportunity cost for everything, in my case the need for a very light affordable backup weapon to replace my NAA380 (18.5oz) and at the time Ruger had the best and lightest. I recently bought a Ruger LCR-LG .38 +P that is very light (13.5 oz) and concealable for my wife and I plan to purchase another to replace my NAA380 & LCP as my primary backup weapon.

According to a local ammo distributor the ammo manufactors are running 24/7 to meet the need for the ammo with the highest demand, 9MM and .40 cal. WWB .380 ammo FMJ has been on the shelf at Gander in Palm Beach Gardens Florida @ $49.95 per hundred and at Willie's on US1 in Lake Park . In recent weeks I have purchased WWB .380 JHP and FMJ ($18.95 x 100) at Wal Marts in West Palm on 45th St.

I also like it. It looks more like they stole the Glock 28 design sans the 'safe action' trigger. I'd buy one, as the sights look way easier to use than the ones on my LCP. (I got my arse handed to me at a BUG match using my LCP. I can get good hits out past 10 yards but it takes me too long to pull the trigger with those itty-bitty sights. <<< See the user name). I don't know if I'd want to pocket carry if it has a glock-like trigger pull without the safety.

I guess I'm odd then.

I like the front serrations. I wish my P3AT had them. Whenever I pull the slide off, I wish I had better traction on the front of the slide to hold it open with my left hand while I pry out the slide stop with my right.

I like the heavier-duty barrel. It's a .380, I know, but it could still hand grenade on me. This also means you can load with more kick, and they have less retooling necessary to transition to 9mm.

Any firearm in your pocket is going to look like a firearm. The trigger guard should be wrapped in a padded pocket holster that will mask the shape anyway.

I think you make great points, tkopp.

I don't think the gun looks half bad. It certainly looks well thought out. I think you're likely to get a higher grip on it than the competing .380s. I expect the trigger is supposed to feel like Kahr's (not my preference, but many like it). Suggested price point isn't too out of line either.

All said I would not have invested in them. Unknown brand as the fourth player in the pocket .380 market would be too tough. Wish them best of luck though.
