First of all: If you are going to complain about the lock, hit "BACK" on your browser now.

For the rest of you:

41 Mag: A 57 Mtn Gun, a 357PD (that's a Sc 57 not a .357)
357: 520 (blue 620)
44 mag: 629 Mtn Gun.

The 57 MG just might be my first 41 Mag. It's a looker!

SnWnMe,

First of all: If you are going to complain about the lock, hit "BACK" on your browser now.

Hmmmm, I see your as intolerant of my opinions and feelings about the locks as I am of yours.

But then I can tell your a S&W apologist by your screen name. OK, now I'll go someplace else.

Caio baby

What is the "new" S&W handgun coming? Factory rep told me last week they were bringing a new gun onto the market, but wouldn't say what model.

That .41 Mag Mountain Gun is sweet. Not sure I'm ready to jump into the caliber, but that's a good looking sixgun and a fine concept. Bravo.

I like what I've seen of the 619 and 620. Curious to read some field reports on them -- esp. on their new 2-piece barrels. Setting aside our bittersweet thoughts of the departed Models 19 and 66, and scrutinizing them on their own terms, the 619 and 620 seem like they could be desirable seven-shooters.

That 520 is actually "black/gray", not blued. It looks OK. Hi-Viz red front sight and V-notch rear sight; S&W seems to be really enamored of those -- or rather, the focus groups are telling them we'll be enamored of them.

There's a stainless 4" 629 Mountain Gun. Classic looks. Loaded with hot .44 Specials it should be a fine house/car gun.

And I see the cute li'l .32 Mag 432PD is now available with a CTC laser grip for carry. Appealing little gun.

That about exhausts the list of the new S&Ws that interest me. All those fewturistik-looking revolvers on p.2 of the "What's New" listing, including the 327, the "Compensated Hunter" 500 [insert Freudian joke here], and that gawdawful swoopy thing they're calling a 29 are, frankly, embarrassing.

Seems that as long as Ruger keeps putting off the addition of internal locks to their fine traditional DA revolvers, they will continue to deserve the great majority of my wheelgun funds.

PS: I do really want a 642 and a 686.

I may just have to get me a mountain gun, don't even have a 4" .41 mag, yet....

As for the rest, I just don't know....

I hit "back" on my browser. Did it make all the Smith and Wesson internal locks go away?

 J Miller and Standing Wolf, the sign was on the door because I know the "old school" pack was going to come out and turn the new revolvers post into an anti lock rant. I was right of course :neener:

But you are free to start your own anti lock thread. We're tolerant after all. Thank you.

44 mag: 629 Mtn Gun

Nifty, I have always liked these. Shame im gonna have to wait a few years for them to turn up on the used marked (new smiths = $$$). Then again I am still keeping my eyes out for a 29 in the same configuration.

New Smiths

As soon as the new .41Magnums are on the California "safety" list, I'll have them on order. The blued MG will make a nice contrast to my SS MG. The 357PD may just become my new field gun. I've got a nice 220gr.WFNGC LBT mold and these may just be the ticket for it. I CAN'T WAIT!! :D

The 357PD .41 Mag; $960 MSRP....not likely I'm writing a check for one of those anytime soon; or ever! A $960 wheelgun had better serve espresso or something pretty stupendous if it has any hope of following me home.

Are we sure Colt isn't running their website/pricing?

A Mtn Gun has a lighter barrel. Not only does the underlug not go all the way to the front, the barrel itself is skinnier. The cylinder also has the old style chamfering on the front.

The mountain guns have a slimmer barrel to save weight. Some of mine have the edges of the cylinder rounded. A few years ago Smith added a "lawyer proof" lock to the side of their revolvers to deactivate them for storage. It leaves a little hole between the hammer and cylinder release. Smith purists (myself included) hate it and prefer the older guns without.it.

And what's the deal with locks? I mean, everyone hates them, but what do they do?

They're an insurance dodge that Smith's lawyers dreamed up to mitigate any potential lawsuits stemming from some idiot shooting themselves with a Smith and Wesson revolver.

but still prettier than printing the entire safety manual on the side of the barrel.. :neener: What am I gonna do? I love wheelguns - and it's nice to know I can take my Vaquero into the can with me if I can't find the newspaper.. ;)

The new 520 looks like an K/L frame 357. If Smith ends up making one in steel as opposed to flyouttamyhandium, I'm in. I sure miss the m-19...

Hmm, I don't like that online catalogue. Please tell me there are other sections that appear to be missing. Where are the Models 10, 64, 65, 66, and 686? :uhoh:

And what is a model 520 and 620? And what is the deal with a 5" M60, who really wants a 5" .357mag J-frame?

I don't think I'm liking this. :scrutiny:

edit:

Nevermind, I guess it is only the "what is new" section that is laid out in catalogue style online. For the others you need to get to the front page of the products/handguns section and view the models by drop down menu. The models 10, 64, 65, 65LS, etc. are all still there.......

That is quite a relief

Chaim: the 65 and 66 are dead. The 619 and the 620/520 are nothing more than L frame sized 65 and 66. While I too lament the K frame 357's passing, I only own one so I take part of the blame. Had I helped with their sales, maybe they will still be around?

I thought the guy who bought S&W made the locks and when he bought the company, in they went.
