I had a honey trade deal that netted me $350 free and clear for a trade in at a large gun store. With 43 guns on the wall in my toy room I wanted something useful and that I had not had before. I looked uninterested at the semis, either had it, got it, or didn't want it. And $350 was my max. Same with the wheel guns. Looked at the milsurps, picked up a couple of Aks but have already sent a couple down the line plus I've got a Colt SP2 so the assault toys are covered. I have four 12 gauges, no interest there, thought about ammo but I reload and they didn't sell components, got all the milsurps I will ever shoot plus they didn't have anything that I didn't, finally ended up with a beautiful Marlin 336 in 30-30 with a very nice scope on it. And I've never had a Marlin, do however have a Winchester. Took it out and tried it with 150g sps pushed by 27g of 4895 and it is accurate, easy to shoot and no recoil. Can't wait till deer season.

Are you nuts? You can't kill a deer with a 30-30.... :D

Sounds like you're going to put your new addition to good use.
I was in the market for a 336 as well, but I ran into an 1894 .44 mag before I found the 336 I was looking for. That settled my lever gun hunt for the time, but I think it's time I resume looking for a 336. I've always been intrigued by the .35 Remington, so that will be my flavor if I can find it.

I'm not familiar with the .35 Remington, 30-30s are rather plentiful here in Alabama, most are well used however. I guess it shows I'm getting old, leave a AR15 at home and take a lever action out to play with. I loaded up about 100 rounds of ammo for it and most likely will take it out again tomorrrow. I want to try it up to 200 yds, that's the most distance you get a good shot at deer here, but usually within 75yds.

Sort of like a .30-30, but based on a modified .30-06 case that is obviously necked up. Can handle 200 gr. bullets (the best choice for the caliber, so I've read), and has a worse trajectory than the .30-30 and the .32 Special. It's supposed to work better than the .30-30 on large game like elk (at least at short range).
