Dirty, no, Shiny Harry is here.

Got my first .44 Mag in what... 35 years? Essentially unfired. And fills that gap of the long gone pig-whackers in .44 & .41 - long gone to family members.

For me, it strikes cords of having a hammer-attached firing pin, no "billboard", stainless and limited lug.

Too damn cool so don't pee in my corn flakes about not being up to stout Magnum loads. I get it and those are really for the bleeding-freezer filler targets anyhow.

Nice "N" frame revolver! I wonder how it would perform with "hot" .44 S&W Special loads? Care to tell us?

oh, yes....it will handle hot 44's...like a champ. I have a 629-4 classic with full lug, 6" barrel. One of my favorites.

Every time I finish a cylinder of .44 mag that thought runs through my head... And sometimes I drop the hammer on a spent primer, or eject a live shell! I guess 44 magnum still rattles me some.

"Uh uh. I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well to tell you the truth in all this excitement I kinda lost track myself. But being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and would blow your head clean off, you've gotta ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, punk?"

I got a 29-6 with 6" (or maybe 6.5"?) barrel about a month ago and have been loving every minute of it. Incredible trigger and extremely accurate.

Nice to get positive responses fellas.

It's all I can do to not sit around dry-firing this thing.

What a trigger set up for a relatively new pistol.

Hell, for that matter, along with it came a supposedly crappy-new-style model 66-6. It too has a hell of a trigger for a... *gasp*...*hack*... *weeze*... MIM model.

One on my biggest gun trading regrets was giving up an 8 3/8" 629 to a friend of mine who had it stolen soon after. Best shooting wheel gun I ever had.

firing pin on the hammer? you are talking the dark ages. and no frame hole is the only way to go!

gorgeous revolver apachecotodd. enjoy

I am jealous of you.
I would love to have that revolver you have. It is mighty fine. I have a new Model 57 and I love it. I don't see anything wrong with the new Smith & Wesson N-frames unlike other people.

I will have a 44 mag also someday. (When my wife is in a good mood).
due time, due time.

The thing cracks my wife the hell up.

She thinks it's pretty if excessive and indulges my weirdness with all guy things like firearms, motorcycles, cars & trucks... not to mention the odd boat and dog.

For my part, I never question nor ridicule her passions.

just remember even Harry himself tended to use .44 special loads.

That is a nice looking gun. And it has enough barrel to make it worthwhile to shoot hot ammo.

Are you using it as a "range gun" or are you using it as a field "hunting piece"?

Do tell.

I wouldn't fire a lot of hot ammo with those grips. I had some on a super blackhawk and the seem on the back put a blister on my hand after about 50 shots.

Geeze, I don't know.

I learned to handgun hunt with a long barreled Model 57. Never felt the need to up my game to .44 but now that I have one, why not hunt it too?

A friend is plagued by hogs back Texas and that's where I first hunted the 57 too so there's that. Another good one might be Mule Deer next year here Apache County.

I kinda don't see it as much of a "target" gun for me but if I get up to re-loading for .44, why not that as well?

Just now, like Lone Watie's hard rock candy... it's mostly just for lookin' through.

Turns out they were standard grips from S&W but they don't have enough ass for me and leave my hand empty to the sides so, point well taken.

To quote Harry Callahan: "[I use] .44 Magnum 'Special' loads". I understood this to mean .44 Remington Magnum "mid-range" loads (Read: 240 grain JHP bullets at 1200 fps, 767 fpe). A relatively light, manageable load in Harry Callahan's 6 1/2" barreled Model 29.

Makes sense to me.

If I hunt with either of my "mid-bore" revolvers (S&W Model 610, 6.5" barrel or S&W Model 657, 6" barrel). Either one with full-house loads will work as well.

Congratulations on the 629. That's a fine revolver you've got. I've owned a couple of 29's over the years.

I don't have one of the new 66's, but I do have one of those new fangled Model 69's. You know the one. Cousin to your 66. I heard all about it. MIM, lock, all the gloom and doom. Turned out to be my favorite S&W. I shoot mostly 44 Special loads in it, those paper targets don't take much killing after all. Like your 66, it too has a fine trigger.
