Did I get ripped off by my FFL?

Uh, no.... if your FFL is REQUIRING shipment between two FFL's only, he/she is screwing you.

I would definately look for another FFL to deal with that is either more honest or can read a little better. Unless you can confirm it through your local state police that it is really a state law.

Let me ask you this, does this shock anyone? Hardly, certainly there are many good gunshop owners and employees out there but unfortunately the ones I run into frequently have the intelligence level of a gnat.

What really :fire: me is the :cuss: people who are
  • Dishonest thieves bring shame on our interests.
  • Plain ignorant people who try to be experts and mislead others.

Dishonest business owners, especially in the gun industry deserve to go out of business. They give everyone a bad rap and discourage interest and growth in this sport or whatever you want to call it.

Ok....I'm gonna go for a walk and take a deep breath now....

That however is not the apparent issue. The issue is that said service providers have some shady practices that tend to mislead folks. In this case, telling clients that shipping handguns must be done through FFLs only. BATF rules state very clearly that anyone can ship a firearm through Fed-Ex or UPS using their perscribed courier services to a RECEIVING FFL.

I agree that if a FFL deliberately misleads a customer about the law that they are trying to rip people off. However, simply saying,"we only ship to and recieve from FFLs" or "we must only ship to and recieve from FFLs" is not an assertion of law, only of business policy.

Most ATF agents don't even know the law. ATF in Louisiana has FFLs here believing that only original CCW permits exempt a purchaser from the Brady check. A FFL has no way of knowing whether or not a CCW is an original or a renewal. As a result, ATF needlessly forces Brady checks on every firearms transaction. When an agent who has the power to shut you down or make you life miserable represents the law in a certain way, you have to choose between doing business that way, not doing business, or sustaining huge legal expenses.
