:D I ran across a fellow who I've known for quite a few years, he wanted to sell one of his rifles, it was a Rem 700 .270 wood stock with cheapo bushnell 3x9-40 scope but here is the kicker, he wanted 100.00 for the gun. The barrel was in excellent shape, bolt was probably 95% just a down right fine find. I offered to give him 150.00 but he refused.........am I missing something here????? He is a friend but not my best buddy old pal, just more of an acquaintance.

I dont get it. he wanted 100$ but you offered him 150$???? can you explain a little more please?

The rifle is probably worth at least 300. Check it out closely. If OK, I would tell him what I thought he might get on the market and what I would give him on the spot. If he wanted to give me a cash gift and take less than that fine. I don't take advantage of people who grossly underestimate the value of a gun they are selling, bad karma.

Buy it from him. Write a 2 hundred dollar Check and tell him thats what it is worth. tell him you would feel like I'm taking advantage of you if you don't accept the 200 dollars.

An object is worth what someone will pay.
You offered more, he refused.
You both have what you want.
Say thank you, and enjoy your rifle.

Exactly. Not everything is this world is about money. Maybe he has too many rifles and realized that there are people who could actually use them or something.

Sounds like a good friend to me.

Thats what I don't get about the deal. I offered him 150.00 and her said 100.00 is all he wanted. I know the gun is not hot, I've known the guy for a number of years. He is not married and only has a couple other family members that I am aware of, I wonder if there might be something else going on psychologically???? Seems to be a straight shooter but this is one of those deals that is just toooooo good. Ive got the rifle but I don't have a digital camera guess I need to get one. I just don't want this deal to bite me in the buttocks later on, find out the guy shot someone with it or it was involved in some crime............crap now I'm starting to get paranoid, dadgummit!!!

I agree with the deer hunter... Maybe the guy doesn't have to many friends and thinks of you as a good one? Maybe he really just wants a 100 and doesn't really care for money who knows. Either way thats a a great deal... It would make a excellent hunting rifle.

If you were selling a hot gun, how would it help you to take less than it was worth? If you're really worried you can have the serial number run.

Yeah, I believe in that as well. It happened to me the other way around though. I hit a real rough patch about ten years ago and needed to come up with some cash fast. Regrettably, I chose to unload a decently scoped Remington 541T and a S&W 617--that's the one I regret the most. Anyway, I walked into a pawn shop and laid them on the counter. The gentleman asked me what I wanted for them and I told him. He gave me two hundred more than I asked. I wish I could thank that man today.

Guess I shouldnt worry about it, I gave him what he wanted and offered more, knowing the guy, I shouldn't have anything to worry about.
