Did you paint your gun or build a safe? Maybe you just built the gun. Either way, show it to us.

All you have to do is
-Post a picture (if you can't post picture just a description)
-list an estimate of what it cost to do
-And last tell us the time it took to make it

I think this will give many of us ideas and things to try. Plus you made it, why not show it off!

My most recent experiment, I high cut the grip underneath the trigger guard on my RIA 1911 and refinished it in a 2 tone with brownell's aluma hyde II.

Cost about 15 bucks for the aluma hyde, thats it.

Started with an extremely light touch with a dremel to get it started, then went to a few files to even everything out, then hours of sanding with progressively finer grit to smooth it all out and get the final shaping to my liking.

Then since I don't own a sandblaster, hours more sanding on the original finish to rough up the entire surface of the gun to apply the alumahyde. Then 3 coats of alumahyde. All told about a 2-3 day project.

The gun now fits my hand much better and is much more controllable under recoil. Its amazing what a difference 1/4" can make.

Bulgarian AKS-74 parts kit ($299, IIRC, some years ago), Nodakspud AKS-74 receiver. Built in an afternoon, Duracoated the next afternoon.

essayons21, have you had any problems with your 1911, or would you recommend it to others. Also, you really made it look so much better. I'd buy yours any day over the original RIA 1911

G1 kit built on an F.A.C. receiver. The toughest thing was getting the 50 year old walnut furniture back to original condition.

I have had no problems with the RIA 1911 in the past few years I've had it, and it is now my IDPA and main range gun so the round count is pretty high, probably over 2K. I also did a light fluff and buff to the gun, and it is now very slick. I own a few Springfield 1911s, and used to own a Kimber, and would recommend a RIA to anyone looking for a budget 1911.

Did it myself

Say hello to Tinosaurus Rex, Son of Punch-press (.223 Saiga).

I don't know how many hours I spent on the paint job (including stock forend and magazines, not shown) . . . most of it was in applying, cutting, and then removing successive layers of masking tape. I didn't realize until I'd finished it that this paint-job is Classic Pinball Machine -- but it's in my favorite colors, and that's what I wanted. T-Rex is shown here next to my Tactical Pet, who came standard with silencer and camo paint job (no modification needed).

That's a Phantom flash-hider on the front, attached with a clip; can't recall who sold me that, but they make a better version now. No matter; it does an outstanding job, and stays put.

Second pic -- I didn't like the rear sight, so I made it a peeper. Yes, that's a flat washer, and yes, it's way off center, so I could center the front sight between its ears (it annoyed me being off-center). BTW, I learned how to reinstall the rear sight, which I almost gave up on, but turned out to be a snap.

Last, a closeup of my free-floated forend, which I painstakingly handcrafted from some cheap aluminum angle stock. The little piece of rail came free with my Ruger 22/45 Mk III, and I had no plans for it. I can't recall where I bought the 5-position foregrip, but I'm not very fond of it -- just never got around to finishing that mod. Superior cooling.

Total cost: less than $100, for certain.

I make silencers on ATF form 1's as a hobby. Seven cans, multiple hosts for most of them.

Cut the hammer spur off my M85. Proper pocket gun now.

Took it apart, ground the spur off with a Dremel, rounded it with a grinder, some sandpaper to smooth it, polished with a rubberized grinder stone, and hit it with a little cold blue. Looks stock.

Geeze Louise, I'm afraid to do anything more with my 1911 than field strip it for cleaning!! Turn me loose with a file or a Dremel tool and I'd have the USS Enterprise out of commission in about 15 minutes flat!!

I thought I would lighten the trigger on my SA 1911 years ago. I realized I was a lousy gunsmith when it double tapped into the weather protection at the range. I unlightened the trigger before shooting it again. It takes practise.

Built my own reloading bench. Cost me about $35 in materials and a few hours of time. Don't remember the measurements off hand, but I think I still have all the measurements written down somewhere if someone's interested.

Also made my own "Boomstick". Started with a H&R single shot, 12 gauge of course, and cut the barrel down. I also cut the stock off, shaped and refinished it to the pistol grip. About an inch over legal length all said and done.

That thing was a B-L-A-S-T!! Never got the nerve to shoot anything but dove load through it though. I'm thinking about building another one but maybe in 20 gauge or .410 this time. The 12 gauge was fun but..just make one, you'll see.

Built two ARs, working on the third. About $600 for the first (Del-Ton build), approaching $900 for the current one (another Del-Ton, but with aftermarket add-ons), and the third is looking to be about $3000 before optics (no expense spared on anything).

Built my Dad a 1903A3 for his 60th birthday. About $800 and a lot of luck.

Have refinished and reblued a couple of rifles for friends - an M44 Mosin Nagant and a K31. $30.

Carved off/ filed/ sanded the ridge on my current AR's telestock because the damned thing was plain uncomfortable. Free.

And of course, I have no pictures of any of these. :banghead:

Not quite adventurous enough to do a build from a kit, don't think a AR would be that hard, but I have refinished a few pistols with KG Coatings GunKote, with good results and I have a Mosin I'm in the process of sporterizing.

Ive always got a few projects going, did a mach2 10/22 for my girlfriend, built up a co2 powered KJW 700 air soft sniper for a friend, fitted the peep sights from that airsoft gun and the fiber optic front sight from another gun to my model 60.
The most recently finished projects tho....

refinished, and glass bed a beat up 1903 sporter i picked up. Some time soon its going to get its barrel swaped and the reciever drilled and taped for scope mounting. since taking the picture ive also cut off the pull nob on the bolt and pinned the cocking piece in place (ill tack it when i get my welder back)

Swaped the barrel on my old savage from 7mm remington to .300 win about a month ago, and fitted and beded in a laminate stock. nothing drastic there lol

Just finished the folower for my 6x47, no pictures of that tho...maybe after i make another one that looks better ill go ahead and post something.

Did a power tune, refinish with bolt handle...and some other stuff, on a friends qb78 that i finished a couple days ago.

thats all my projects for the last month or so LOL....need to find something else now.

refinished the stock on my Kimber 82... that is the biggest undertaking I have braved so far.

Buck, you are a man after my own heart. I can take them apart really good, but getting them back together is a different story. Always end up with to many parts left over:eek:. Oh well it's always nice to have some spares.
