Did Remington drop the ball AGAIN? RM380

"NEWSFLASH! Remington hasn't had a quality product since 1980!"
Their 1911 pistols (well, Para's, technically) are just fine, jockeying for 'best deal' with RIA. The RM380 by pretty much all accounts is of acceptable quality & performance (I see Yamato has some beefs with its features, but it's not like the guns are being reported as non-functional, shoddy, or dangerous.) I'm sure it depends on what you call 'quality,' but Remington hasn't been even trying to chase the 'fine' firearms market segment since at least the '70's. Their bread & butter has been cheap (supposedly) functional guns for the every-Fudd, and they've slowly ruined themselves trying to out-compete foreign imports like every other foolish American old-guard industry player. Hopefully, once Cerberus' three heads finally finish chewing on Remington and they can start picking up the pieces, they'll be a much more market-focused & innovative company, which aims for a better quality product. I think if they can finally do something about their horrible-looking finishes their reputation will start turning around, because right now even their properly made items look like an old dog-turd (the R51 was a step in the right direction with an attractive satin black slide & matte frame, but they totally botched the internals on that one)

Until then, they're basically our version of Taurus, with some winner products, and a generally bad rep, both earned and wrongly assumed.

I shot the beans out of a new in box RM 380 and found it to be an easy up close shooter, manageable recoil, with finger grip mag--easy to hold, barks loudly, safe to drop into a pocket, heavier and a bit larger than Bodyguard but easier shooting, has a flat black finish on slide and well worth the $330 OTD he paid for it. I prefer a SA pocket pistol but then I do not carry in a pocket, only a holster. I would be quite content with the RM 380 as a carry/backup pistol.

Picked up my RM380 yesterday and hope to shoot it later this week. I do like the feel and overall easy operation of the gun. Had a relatively problem free R51 but did send it back for the R1 which is an excellent 1911 for the price. Out of the box accurate and only upgrade was the trigger.

My brother and I both have RM380's that we have run a lot of rounds through without a bobble. My brother got his first as I was a little suspicious after the R51 debacle even though this was basically a Rohrbaugh design.
After a few hundred rounds of various types of ammo including steel case with no failures and seeing that it could be stupidly accurate if you pay attention to trigger pull. I had to buy one.
Mine is just as accurate and reliable as my brothers. It is a well put together well thought out piece. I personally like the changes Remington made to the Rohrbaugh design. The extra bit of beavertail is useful. The ambi mag release is well thought out and not likely to be prone to an unintended mag dump and the slide release is inset to the grip and will not snag anything.
The RM380 is good enough to almost make me forgive Remington for the R51. Almost!!!
