"NEWSFLASH! Remington hasn't had a quality product since 1980!"
Their 1911 pistols (well, Para's, technically) are just fine, jockeying for 'best deal' with RIA. The RM380 by pretty much all accounts is of acceptable quality & performance (I see Yamato has some beefs with its features, but it's not like the guns are being reported as non-functional, shoddy, or dangerous.) I'm sure it depends on what you call 'quality,' but Remington hasn't been even trying to chase the 'fine' firearms market segment since at least the '70's. Their bread & butter has been cheap (supposedly) functional guns for the every-Fudd, and they've slowly ruined themselves trying to out-compete foreign imports like every other foolish American old-guard industry player. Hopefully, once Cerberus' three heads finally finish chewing on Remington and they can start picking up the pieces, they'll be a much more market-focused & innovative company, which aims for a better quality product. I think if they can finally do something about their horrible-looking finishes their reputation will start turning around, because right now even their properly made items look like an old dog-turd (the R51 was a step in the right direction with an attractive satin black slide & matte frame, but they totally botched the internals on that one)
Until then, they're basically our version of Taurus, with some winner products, and a generally bad rep, both earned and wrongly assumed.
