I ran across a URL for a die that fits a reloading press for cutting wads and like a real dummy I did not mark the web page. These dies screwed in to the press and had a punch that fit the die on the top side.
Do any of you have a URL for these dies?

Thanks
Joe

I have had some luck with a cheap Harbor Freight punch mounted in the chuck of my drill press. I like to make felt wads from old hats I buy at Goodwill stores. It works well with material on a pine board. Plus it gets those Blues Bros hats off the streets. The only time consuming effort is pushing the wads through to the slanted opening. If it were smoother it would be better I guess. I use a coat hanger tool to shove them about 10 at a time out the cutting end and gather them up. I have on occasion wedged the wads in the cutter really tight.

Have to ask the vender I have no clue. I have seen .060 inch some where but don't hold me to that number. The one I wanted was out of stock.

When you are bald any hat is ok even if Jake and Elwood wear them. I remember when the Blues Brothers hats were in style in the 50's, my dad wore them until he could not buy them any longer. Hay I got one hanging on my hat rack. But I see your point they look stupid on a 15 year old girl.

why would you want to make your own wads?

For many of the same reasons that folks cast their own bullets.

1. To save money over the long run.

2. To be able to control and choose which materials to use, it can increase the number of materials options.

3. To experiment with different materials that are not commercially available, using different wad thicknesses for instance.

4. To not need to rely on one supplier of any particular product, or to need to find some to buy before being able to go shooting.

5. To provide some self-satisfaction by performing a self-reliant activity, it gives a person a hobby related activity to do during their free time.

They're only $7.50/100 at Dixie or 7.5 cents each, and from $5-$6 elsewhere, not including the shipping of course.

Yeah, I've been buying Wonder Wads at the Bass Pro Shops, which is probably the highest price in town. So, I should start shopping for them on the internet and save $$$.

Ditto on what arcticap said. I feel that being able to produce as much of your own supplies that you can lends to the fun of the sport. If there is a part I need, if possible, I'll go to the forge and build it. As for springs, I've never bought one, they're easy to make and temper. So making your own wads is in that same line of being more independant from having to depend on the high pricing of the items needed to shoot.

And those Blues Brothers hats are cool. I'm in my 6th decade on this planet and being a might older, I wear one a lot. But then again I'm an old Bluesman myself and it goes with the lifestyle I suppose (big bluesman grin here..)

Enjoy your weapons, have fun, and be safe.....maybe even in a Blues Brothers hat to boot!
