I can get an OLD 500ab for cheap right now, but I need to doa lot to it. I plan on full converting it into a PGO gu, putting a new Safety and Safety button in, new triggerguard/assembly, forend...barrel...everything? is there compatibility issues?

Chances are the parts will interchange with each other but you call this guy and find out for sure. He also has alot of Mossberg part.
Iam not connected anyway with him or the company, I have order parts and got very helpful information form him.

Is there one pump rail, action rod, instead of the newer dual action rods?

It is that or the ab was 2 3/4" chambered barrel and the a had a 3" chambered barrel.

There are not a whole lot of upgrades to Mossberg shotguns over the years and most of them were actually downgrades, i.e hardwood instead of walnut, plastic safety buttons and trigger groups instead of metal, etc.

"...into a PGO..." The most useless thing on Earth is a shotgun with no stock. You have absolutely no control.

That's your opinion. I've personally shot at least 15-1700 rounds through one, buckshot and slugs included and I have plenty of control, thanks. I prefer the shoulder stock, but I won't concede the pgo works for me, well enough.

Sorry for that. Had to go out with the wife and a half a post wasn't worth leaving.

It's the same gun but the AB had a really nice scalloped bolt and lifter. It was a serious attempt at a hunting gun, nice blue, walnut with grip cap etc....and some stores sold them with hunting scenes engraved into the receivers.

Check it to be sure it's a two bar receiver/bolt slide, but other than that, they're interchangeable. The bolt and lifter will probably want to be replaced, though....they're just too pretty for a knockaround gun.
