Mossberg what the @#$%?

I purchased a new Mossberg 500A combo from Big 5 and I went to change the forearm and I don’t have a slide action assembly. My action bars are located and held in by the stock forearm. I knew that it might have been new old stock because it have fixed chokes, but even old Mossberg’s have a slide action assembly. Is this a cheap Mossberg or do I have a high quality Maverick with a Mossberg trigger and safety?

Actually, I think it's the newer Mossbergs (at least some models) that have that. I don't think there's a whole lot you can do, other than buy the slide parts.

Yes, but I can't change the forearm without buying the old style part.

I ordered a 7 5/8 slide action assembly and locking nut yesterday.

Sounds like you have a pickle on your hands, but I am sure that you will get through this one shot at a time. It looks nice by the way and it's a Mossberg for one. They are well known for their outstanding shotguns or at least so I have heard. I like Benelli's personally but that's only for the semi auto and auto shotties. Yes I said shottie just like the CSK's I am only 25 you know. But seriously I like their auto shotguns but would go with a moss any day for a pump action.

That's just wild. I don't believe I'd want that kind of feature on any of my shotguns... I'm glad my most recent purchase was an 870.

So....being an new Mossberg 500A owner myself, and NOT beign an armorer....what is a "slide action assembly"?

The one I bought shoots, I can take it apart, clean it, put it back together again and still have it shoot....but that's about as far as my smithing skills go.

Slide action assembly.....the metal tube the action bars are attached to....the tube rides the magazine, and the forearm slips over the tube, and is retained by a large open-center nut.....his action bars are attached directly to the forearm, no tube, no nut, no easy change.

As an FYI, my little 505 being discussed on the .410 thread has the slide action assembly....might be the synthetic stocked 500 .410 would come equipped with the same forend as pictured above....whew...glad I nixed plastic while shopping as that might have gotten past me during purchase....
