I’m diving into the deep specifics of Mauser development. Or I’m trying to.

Where exactly did Mauser stretch the bolt between their various models?

I’ve got a 93, 95, and 98 bolt available to me, and I don’t believe the 94 and 96 have any significant changes. I am fairly certain the length of the Yugoslav M24 series is the same as the length of the 93-96. Obviously the bolt is different, but I believe the length is the same. Likewise, I believe a K98AZ is the same length as the large ring K98.

In any case, if anyone has a Yugoslav M24 series bolt he could photograph alongside a 93-96 bolt I would appreciate it. If this is impossible, a photo of an M24 bolt alongside a large ring K98 bolt would also be appreciated.

My hypothesis is that the Yugoslavs shortened the action in the same place(s) that the 93 was lengthened to start with. Anyone care to assuage my curiosity? Thanks!

Looks like the bolt body and receiver body were lengthened.
The front of the receiver looks to be the same depth.

The bolt heads look to be just about the same when I line up the extractor collars.

Oh, that’s beautiful! I’m not exactly sure what is lined up in the first photo, but it appears from that photo that the K98AZ and the G98 bolts are identical. I had expected the same length, but not realized that even the lug profile would be the same as the G98. Likewise it appears that the M24 and M48 bolts are identical (I’m not worried about bent vs straight bolt handles at this time).

From the second photo, the distance from the extractor collar to the rear of the locking lug looks the same for all of them. Which would mean that all the stretch is aft of the extractor collar. I’m unsure of the distance to the bolt face though. I wonder if they did this to enable use of the same extractor... If this is correct, the distance to the bolt face would need to remain identical.

On a different note, can you tell any difference in the distance from the rear of the locking lugs to the bolt handle between the 1893 and the Yugoslav?

All the bolts (save the 93) look to be identical save for the extended or reduced length in the bolt body
