Dilemma--what to do?

I bought a used colt commander a few weeks ago, and took it back to the store because the grip safety was not functioning. They replaced the grip safety, but the gun is still dropping the hammer while the grip safety is not depressed. So, I decided that 1) this is unsafe, especially for everyday carry and 2) i'm not too big on carrying cocked and locked in SA mode (all my other guns are DAO--glock 27, springfield xd9, hk 45c). so i decided to trade the gun back in for store credit. i think I want a Sig 229 in .357SIG or maybe just get a 1911 Kimber just to have. Either that or have them check out the Commander and try to fix it again. I'm kinda leaning to the 357SIG because it's a cool round and i can carry it everyday in DA mode. Anyone have any input on what I should do?

First of all, any shop that "repaired" a gun without testing their repair is not a shop you should be dealing with. In my book, that is absolutely ridiculous and irresponsible. If you like the gun and want a 1911 take it to a reputable gunsmith and have it checked out. From your post I can't be sure exactly what you want the gun for. You obviously have other carry guns but I will tell you that I love my Sig 229, fantastic firearm. Mike

The tolerances that make a grip safety work are pretty small so some 'tweaking' by a knowlegable smith is probably in order. It should not be a big deal unless the internals have been 'smithed' by some UNknowlegable person.

Your other options are viable but you should make it known to the buyer (dealer) if yours is returned to him that it is NOT working correctly. Hopefully, they will NOT pass it on to an unsuspecting buyer without fixing it.

all my guns are carry guns, unless i get the 1911 (which i could prolly conceal anyways). i love the commander and they're kinda classics, and who knows if i'll ever come across one again. then again, i may come across a new one that's not as used as this one. i just dont wanna do the runaround sending the gun back to the shop and getting it back then having to drop it off at Colt do get it completely re-worked.

the gunsmith also told me that "if you go shaking the trigger like that the grip safety isn't going to function" (because i was trying to get it to trip). i don't think he does good work if he says soemthing like that.

probably, being that i havent even fired my commander yet, i will trade it for a SIG 229 in 357SIG and just try to find a new commander somewhere else. i already have a .45 HK so the 357 will level out the caliber selection, too.....

That gunsmith's statement is probably the most ridiculous thing I've read this month. He clearly doesn't know what he's doing. I wonder what his credentials are. Maybe watched a couple of AGI videos?
