Does anybody have any larger photos of the highly modified 1911 that was found with the Dillenger gang? I know the gun was a 38 super converted to full auto. I'm wanting to build a NON firing replica of the gun for a display piece. Heres the only pic I've been able to find of it.
Thanks
Rob
It's amazing what you can own when you don't have a pesky $200 tax to pay.
Searcher, since you're not worried about the full-auto conversion, you only need to add a compensator and a forward grip. Lots of comps out there in 38 caliber. I bought one from EGW's online auction. The forward grip mounts like the Weigand style scope mount -- drill and tap the dust cover in front of the trigger guard (typically either 8 or 10 screws). Since your copy is non-functional, you don't have to worry about cutting off the screws inside the dust cover to avoid interference with the recoil spring.
The extended magazines are $15 at the gun show. Or $12 if you bargain well.
Your home free searcher, only in England do they go crazy over a dummy gun. Fact, a while back they called out a whole squad of police when someone found a live 22 LR shell on their door step. I think what you are doing will make a dandy display pieice.
They do, I agree! I noticed the little Ortgies .25 down in the corner there. They are interesting and finely made guns that should receive more attention.
By the way, what is the source of your information about John Dillinger's carry preferences?
