Dillon 600 swager and high SR primers

...just bought this item and it seems to work great but the first few primers (Federal SRP) are seating a tad high.

Is this related to the swager or something else? Is there an adjustment on the Dillon that is out-of-wack? I have adjusted the threaded black case bar so it just allows the empty case to enter the swager when it is pushed down into the frame.

Doubt that it is any fault of the Dillon 600 Super Swage. If it wasn't swaging, your primers would not enter the primer pocket. So, why not uniform your primer pockets and seat your primers with a handheld tool such as the RCBS?

The swaging tool is tapered, so I doubt it's pushing and material toward the bottom of the pocket. That's the only way I can think of that would cause high primers from swaging.

Is the 550 new to you too? My guess is that you're not seating the primers all the way.

A couple notes on the swager:

Adjust to just remove the crimp. Do not over-do it.

Different head thicknesses require different adjustments to get the same result. Sort brass.

With punched flash holes, sometimes removing the burr inside the case is needed before swaging.

I've never had any problems with my Dillon 600 swager. Sounds like this is a component or press related problem.

I'd start by measuring the primer pocket depth and the height of the primers, who knows, maybe the brass is a bit shallow or the primers a tad tall and even while seated fully, they still protrude slightly. If that's the case, measure a different lot of primers to see if they are different. If they don't, I'd say the brass is likely the cause.

If you're measurements for the primer pocket depth are bigger then the primer height, you're not seating the primers fully, might be just an issue of a light touch and need a little more force when seating, or the press is slightly out of adjustment.
