Dillon Carbide Die Set Lead Times

Is there an advantage to using Dillon dies....over say...Lee carbide dies?

On their pistol size dies, the recapping pin is spring loaded to pop primers off the end so they can’t get pulled back into the pocket (if you ever have the problem with regular dies just put a little angle on the end of the recapping pin, if they don’t stay straight, they can’t get pulled back into the pocket.

Their rifle dies have a built in stick case remover. Those are the two big ones.

That said, I probably own more Lee dies than any other brand.

My philosophy has been use the dies that I already had, and buy new Dillon pistol dies when I started a new cartridge. I have 2 sets, 9mm and .30 Carbine, and they are great dies on my 550B.

I'd never buy Dillon rifle dies though, because the set has a dedicated crimp die, and I don't crimp rifle ammo. Too expensive for something I'll never use.

It's now been 24 weeks since I placed my order for the 45 Auto carbide die set. I contacted Dillon and was told they would hopefully ship within the next month or so.

Rather disappointing. It's already a month beyond their 16-20 week lead-time range, and now they are saying it looks like another month (maybe).

It's quite clear that Dillon isn't overly concerned about meeting their published lead-times.

Well, I went ahead and cancelled the Dillon order for 45 Auto Dies. When I ordered, I was told the lead-time was 4-5 months. I called after 6 months, and they said maybe another month. Well, I called today and they said it could take up to 6 months. It's already been 7 months. No apologies. Enough of it. They claim to have problems getting carbide, but Hornady, RCBS, Redding, Lyman, Lee have no such problems/excuses. Sorry for the rant, but I think it fair to warn others about Dillon's practice with lead-times, and their seeming lack of concern when they fail to meet them.

Don't know if this helps, but Ben Stoeger Pro Shop has the Dillon 45 ACP sizer ($50) and seater ($38) in stock. Bought many times there, always quick and reasonable shipping. Also has the Lee carbide factory crimp die in stock for $17, but if you have to have the Dillon, Titan Reloading has the 45 ACP crimp die in stock for $35.
