My loader is not indexing correctly it seems. The primer cup is coming up before the shellplate has fully advanced catching on the edge of the plate resulting in the primers being flipped completly upside down sometimes or on edge, which makes for a pretty ugly load. Anyone out there experiance the same problems?

thanks

Make sure the anvil is all the way down and the setscrew is snug. If it has slipped up the problem you describe will happen.

Pull your primer assembly out and measure the height of the anvil as per the instructions in the manual. I had one of mine slip once and it causes the same problem you describe. Adjust it accordingly and tighten it down well and you should be good to go.

I have over 80,000 rounds through my SDB in the past six years and have had a few problems, some like yours. There is a metal "finger" which advances the shell plate for the auto-indexing. Sometimes this becomes worn/shortened and doesn't move the shell plate far enough along resulting in the primer cup hitting the edge of the shell plate and flipping or ejecting the primers. I've also had the indexing spring (which has a metal ball on top and ensures the shell plate sits in the right position) weaken resulting in the same problem.

An easy solution for the worn/shortened auto-indexing finger is to measure its length and then put it flat on a solid piece of metal and then whack it towards the end a few times with a small sledge hammer. This expands the end back towards normal. Measure it after to make sure it has elongated. For the weakened indexing spring I just stretch it out by hand and then reinsert it. It seems to work well. Of course there is the easy option of just calling Dillon and getting a free replacement part but what is the fun in that. Good luck.

There is a very small allen screw that is on the outside of the primer assembly just under the primer feed slide. It needs to be set correctly for proper index. I can send a pic if you need it.

Drop your handle, and right about where the spring is located that retracts your primer feed slide, you will see the allen head set screw. Make a few adjustments and you will figure it out. Good luck

Here is the best advice I can think of...

Ok, with all the suggestions I tore into the old SDB ( it has been going strong since 1990)and found that the indexing pawl was pretty well wore out. Odered up a new one and springs along with a new primer cup assembly.should be able to get another 20 plus years out of it.

SDB presses are the best kept secret in the Dillon line. I have 2 and wouldn't trade for either one. Occassional adjustment is necessary, like any mechanical devise, but they run for years and crank out good ammo with the best CS in the market.

I've got 3 SDB's. The little pawl that indexes the plate is probably worn as suggested earlier. Not much else to go wrong.
