Dings in the top of the neck. Do you discard them?

I just bought a lot of brass and noticed that they have a "ding" in the mouth of them like as if one of the rifles were inflicting the minor damage as the brass was being ejected.

I'll try to upload a picture or two so you know what I'm talking about precisely.

Do you toss these or use them? I notice that some slipped thru my hasty inspection the first loading and I couldn't notice any difference while shooting. I was shooting for accuracy and got 5 groups of 5 that had .62"-1.05" (100yds.) so, obviously, accuracy isn't affected too awfully much.

Any danger in using them?

It would depend upon further inspection of the mouth after running the case thru a resizing die. If acceptable, keep a close watch on that lot of cases for premature case mouth splitting due to a overworked area.

No big thing that I can see at this time. Will probably end up splitting at that point in the future tho.

I've even used needle nosed plyers to streighten out brass then ran them thru the sizing die.

What cal. is this?

That looks like an AK kiss. AKs dent the brass in 2 places: the top of the neck, and in the case body. It's particularly pronounced with larger calibers like the 7.62x54R used by the PSL.

That's what the sizing die is for, to iron out little dings and bring the brass back into specification for the caliber. If you don't have to do any major body work on the brass, it's good to reload.

Hope this helps.

Sometimes they will be long enough so that the damage is trimmed off.

wntfw thats what i find alot

when i have brass that is damaged like that i go ahead and check the length to see how much i can take off and it still be good for plinking ammo my good shootign ammo is all sized to the same length but plinking ammo is along as i can trim it into spec

The ones with the ding in the body - are they good for reloading? Any dangers with a fair sized ding?

These are going to the range for practice, not BR matches.

Thanks.

No problem.

Dings will iron out during resizing.

If they don't, and the completed rounds still make dimensional specs, they'll iron out the first time you fire them.

Of course, if it's an autoloader like an AK or AG-42B Ljungmann, you'll just get another new ding on the case somewhere else... :D

The sizer or expander won't fix that one. That one needs an application of fine needle nosed pliers to take out the relatively heavy dent. The case mouth hit something hard and pointy. Once that is done, it'll be fine. Mind you, for one case, I might pitch it. Naw. Too easy to fix. Not a big deal one way or the other though.

i concur w/ sunray, no harm in re-using, but i to use a needle nose pliers to pull everything out, i find the lee crimp die usually make it all well in the end. i find i start getting those when i am depriming and fatigue becomes part of the factor. i have run ones allot worse than that.
