Dirty Laundry

Good morning! Who else occasionally forgets to check their pockets, and unknowingly throws speedloaders and speedstrips into the washing machine?

Do you use that ammo as range fodder? Or would you continue to carry it?

I probably do this at least once every couple months.

I wouldn't use any ammo that has been through the wash for carry.

Use it up at the range? Certainly I would give it a try after drying it out.

Use it for carry? No way - if they were the last rounds I owned, it would be time to visit the local retailer and by some more, pronto. How could it be worthwhile to carry ANY ammunition about which there were possible reliability questions?

Range fodder! I would not be comfortable using it as carry ammo! Better to be safe than sorry.

I may have some “Senior moments” but that has not been one. At least not yet. For carry, no way. Range, probably.

Me neither.

I turn my jeans pockets inside out when I take them off for laundry to get all the pocket lint out of them.

Then I check they are still inside out when I wash them.

To this day have never washed anything that wasn't supposed to be washed in my life.

I am truly anal about my pockets. I have a checklist that goes in this order about 20 times a day. Keys, inhaler (asthmatic), wallet, phone, knife, pistol or revolver, spare mag or a cylinders worth of loose rounds in a pocket. This makes it easy to inventory myself quickly and accurately to avoid going without or compromising anything.

Burn it at the range. Don't trust it for CCW. Of course, if you do this 20 times and the ammo still works every time...

Have sent some loose change and the occasional pocket knife through the laundry but never any ammo/speedloaders. If I did the any ammo would be for range use only.

On rare occasions a speedloader has been washed with a load if .38 Special ammo. While each and every time all the rounds have fired at the range I still would not carry them for SD. While I doubt there would be a dud in the batch I just can't take a chance.

I figure hey, you need to practice with your carry ammo anyway so...

Gone through the wash:
Loose rounds
Speedloaders
Magazines
Flashlights
Pocket knives

Rounds that have been through the wash and failed to fire at the range? Zero.
Knives that exploded into pieces in the druer? One. A Benchmade Mel Pardue auto. Took 30 minutes with a magnet to round up all the pieces from the dryer, lint trap, exhaust hose etc.

No wallet or phones yet.

No. After washing my wallet once I always check my pockets.

I've washed empty brass before, but never live ammo. Range ammo for sure. I did wash my phone once. Full wash and dry cycle. Actually worked better afterward.

Maybe time to consider a belt pouch of some sort for your reloads.

I washed a 4sevens quark 123x flashlight and then I dried it. Worked just fine. Can't find it anymore though. Better check the lint trap.

Wow, I've accidentally washed lots of loose .22. I mean, LOTS. I always keep between one and four loose .22s in my Levi 501's change/watch pocket. Just in case. For whatever reason. More then once I've been out in the woods after a heavy rain, and I've got a fire started for my self using powder from those few .22s.
Never had any more failures with "washed" .22s then normal as opposed to dirty old normal fresh from box .22s.

If you're going to launder your ammo, you should probably apply primer sealant to the case around the primer and case mouth.
