I thought I had a Euro Arms R&S in my pistol safe. My dad dropped off a pile of 25-30-year-old BP replica guns, some of which were mine as a kid, some of which were his. I knew what they all were, except for the R&S I guess. I remember it having a good trigger way back; maybe I just didn't know better.

Anyway, it's marked "Made in Italy" on one side of the barrel, and "Sile & Co. NY NY" on the top of the barrel. It appears the trigger and hammer are cast, and the sear and notch are both burred. Soft metal. Yuck.

The rest of the gun seems really nice. That's why I thought it was a good one. Yeah, the inside is very rough, but not where it makes contact with any moving parts. But the hammer and trigger need to be replaced to make this a "shooter" again.

Any thoughts about what this gun really is, and where/how to get parts?

I have an old ASM 1858 with the same problem, only worse. Dixie said I could send it to them. Anyone ever done this?

I might ship them both guns and just see what they can do -- sentimental value, you know. I might be better off, money-wise, just buying some more new replicas. Already did buy a Uberti 1858 and man, it's a nice shooter.

Maybe the old guns should just live in the safe for old time's sake. But if I can get those few parts, it'd be a fun gun to have.

Are there other options?

ArmedBear,....with your R&S, look at the bottom of the barrel, under the loading lever for this stamp...

...if it has that , it was made by Armi San Paolo,an Italian manufacturer at that earlier time, and imported by Sile & Co.

Euroarms later took over Armi San Paolo, and continued to use most of the machinery that ASP had.

If you have that DGG stamp on the barrel, then I would follow what mykeal suggested and gets parts from S&S Firearms for the Euroarms R&S.

You also may be able to just carefully stone the burrs off the trigger sear, and reharden with some Kasenit.

Good luck:cool:

Hey, did they make Remmies, too? Did EA acquire their Remmie tooling also?

I have been trying to determine the maker of the old Remmie I have. Should I look for the same DGG stamp on it?

It's the Beals frame size, with smaller grips, which I think is what EuroArms currently sells.

I did get some replacement parts for that Remmie a while back. They don't fit. Close, but no cigar. While the overall design is the same, the dimensions are off compared to the spare parts I got, and to my Uberti 1858 (which is the 1863 frame size).

It might say ASP somewhere, come to think of it.

Anything you know would be appreciated, and thank you so much for the info above!

Yes, ASP made Remmies, and Euroarms took over the tooling machinery for that, too.

Look for that DGG stamp under the barrel on your Remmie, too. That picture of the stamp is from my 1976 ASP Rem Navy.
Nice small Beals size grip frame.

Where did you get those Rem replacement parts that didn't fit, and just which parts didn't fit?

S&S Firearms specializes in Euroarms parts.

I bought the parts from Dixie, when I had no idea that the parts I needed were so different. When I called and asked, they said I could send them the revolver, but since I couldn't find much but illegible proof marks and "Made in Italy" on it, they couldn't identify it conclusively over the phone.

The 1858 is a gun I built from a kit many years ago. My dad had a shop with polishing equipment, and it looks good on the outside. So does the factory R&S. It would be fun to make them shoot well again.

The spare parts should fit my Uberti, though, if I ever need them, and it would have cost almost as much to return them.

Thanks so much for the info!

The 2008 S&S catalog does list Euroarms factory parts available for both the R&S and 1858 Remington. (718) 497-1100. R&S hammer is $32 (!), and you may also need to buy the roller and roller pin if you can't get them out of your old hammer. The trigger is $9.

Yeah, the prices aren't low.

But the rest of the gun is in excellent condition, so if $40 or $50 will get it up to excellent shooting condition, I figure hell, a new one is $291 so it's still worth doing.

Cabelas sells kits for $25 for both the Remmies and the Colts. And the kits include hammer and triggers.

That is one damn good reason to get a Pietta, I guess.:)
