I was looking at smith and wessons website when i ran across this
http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/...selected=over&isFirearm=Y&parent_category_rn= .

Kit contains:
SW9VE (10+1 Rounds)
Waterproof Hardigg® Storm Case
Crank Radio and Flashlight Combo
Pocket Survival Pack
Light & Fast Trail First Aid Kit
Emergency Food for 4 People (for 3 days)
12" x 12" Waterproof Document Bag
Water Purification Tablets
44 Mag Multi-Tool and Case
(4) Space Blankets

this is the california legal version the normal one is 16+1. do you think this is a way for smith to compete with glock more.

Glock has its pistol kits at http://www.glock.com/english/index_pistols.htm .

It comes with gun, lock, speedloader, magazines, cleaning equipment, and manuel.

What do people think of this, I know people are usually not fans of the sigma but i love mine and see it as a cheap mans glock and love it without any issues. Would naybody buy this kit. Me personally no but thats because I already have one of these pistols but it does intrique me.

A survival kit, by definition, should reflect mature consideration and planning to deal with a likely threat. What particular threat did S&W have in mind when they put this kit together?

For example, what sort of emergency would call for water purification tablets, but no canteen or other device to mix the pills in and carry the now-purified water?

I get why they made the kit. After Katrina who knows what they'll need in an emergency. It's an emergency kit not I'm stuck in the woods kit.
I really like the fact they did away with the stainless finish. Heck might get me one(the gun, not the kit) i saw another package where they packed the pistol and a blade for like $300 plus change.

Glock kit. It's not in the same leauge as a survival kit. The things mentioned are what you get when you buy any new quality gun, thats all.

Every Glock I've owned came with all that stuff. Are they shipping without them now?

I don't know about the S&W kit. If it cost less than it would to buy those things separately it might be worthwhile (if you needed all of the items). I'd like to see them throw in a camelback or some other method of carrying water since it implies you'll be bugging out and carrying light. I'd bring a lot more ammo than 10 rounds at least...and a rifle :D

I have basically the same kit but I put it together using space blankets, eating / drinking supplies, clothes, basic tools & rope, crank radios and firearms and basic tools

i wouldn's buy it. i have alot of experienence and range time with the sig,a's and they leave alot to be desired in my opnion. i believe that you should look into putting your own "survival kit " together, i would reccomend, xd, glock 19/17, usp, etc. as the pistol, throw in some extra mags. flashlight, good quality ammo, and the stuff that 10-ring recomended.

I would vote yes, I think it's a great idea for a gun company to put together a kit of any sort. I'm sure many people could put together a survival kit that better suited there own needs, but as we see in most disasters a huge majority of peope are completely unprepared. They only have what they could get at the grocery store the day before.

At least they are trying to offer something to the market. I would bet even the great majority of "gun owners" have zero water purification tablets laying around as an example, maybe on this forum they do, but not in the general population of gun owners.

Good marketing ploy, but I already have this stuff in my BOB, which includes a Glock 17 and Colt Lawman Mk III.

No water purification pills but a small portable water filter picked up at REI.

I wouldn't buy it myself. However, if I worked at a gunshop and someone came in wanting a ready made kit I'd feel good selling them the kit with a couple nalgene bottles and a camp silverware set inside each. Sigmas don't have great triggers but they do have good ergos and are generally reliable pistols. At least this way you get someone a few basics in a ready made kit, which beats having nothing.

I'd buy it. Not as a main carry gun (I'm not a huge fan of DAO guns, or Sigmas) but mainly as a "in case bad things happen" kit that I could store in my car or camper or something like that, and forget about it yet be able to rely on it if I needed it. Much like a fire extinguisher. I like the idea of it. Personally, I'm trying to build my own "bad times" kit. I'm thinking of getting more magazines for my 1911 and adding an AK in there. Good idea though.

I like my Sigma 9VE that I just bought. It is what it is, a no frills, reliable 9mm.

I have a S&W 5906, a Glock 23, a Kahr PM 40 and Ruger P 90 too. I'm not saying that the Sigma is an equivalent gun to the higher end semi autos, but it is affordable and is appropriate for a survival pistol (or just an inexpensive shooter/car gun/carry weapon.)

I don't need the rest of the stuff in the S&W kit- I could assemble it myself- but I like the gun
