I present to you my arsenal. This is my first such thread. I took so long to do this because I had penis envy of all the other nicer guns I've seen on this forum :/ Surely you can understand

However unimpressive these may be, I hope someone tells me what they think of my humble collection! I really should shoot the 1911 more, because I don't think she's got more than 200 rounds through her yet! I consider the 1911 to be my first real-life impulse buy because I don't really like the 1911 at all. But, like a fool I was talked into them because I was told "If you don't own a 1911 no one will ever take you for a serious shooting enthusiast."

The Mak could be considered an impulse buy, but then again you would have snatched it up if you saw it sitting there for $175 too With the supply of Maks drying up I figured they'd become harder and harder to find, and more expensive too. Shoots like a champ, and if the wife ever gets her CCW she wants to carry it (unless someone tells us otherwise!).

Finally, the P2K is my carry piece. It's the second H&K I've owned, the first being a USPc .45. I have a few qualms about my P2K as of recently and I need to discuss them with the folks over at HKPRO before I consider trading it on this awesome little SIG I saw at my candy store. Comparetively, how is the felt recoil on a .357 SIG to a 9mm?

I think you have the start (or completion, depending on how you look at it) of a nice collection.

I see a couple of guns missing for the long term. You need a .22 handgun of some type for fun plinking, and teaching new shooters. You need a shotgun for home defense. Just my opinion, it's worth what you paid for it.

A couple of pointers: Try everything you can. Buy and keep what you like, and what works for you. Ignore fashion and find what works for you. Anyone who thinks you are a "serious shooter" because you own a 1911 is a numbskull. A serious shooter is determined by range time and holes in targets, not equipment.

Please do not compare yourself, or your collection of guns to that of other people. No matter where you are on the continuum, there will be someone who can shoot better or who has more or better toys. Many people you run into and meet have been shooting and horse trading guns for a while. They have years on you. Learn from them and enjoy their stuff. People collect handguns for different reasons, and they go through stages. I know an attorney who has a unique collection of blood guns. I know a man who collects only police guns. I myself, collect in several areas, one of which is historical custom CCW pieces and .22 plinkers. I could care less for overpriced NIB examples I will never shoot. There was a time that I was a 9mm fanatic, and I thought revolvers and 1911s were dinosaurs shot by old men. Now, I'm balding, I wear khakis, and I collect and shoot 1911s and S&W wheelies. Go figure.
Basically, I guess what I am saying is enjoy the journey. There is no final destination, only continued learning, and improvement of one's abilities to shoot well. If you get a few nice pistols along the way to help you do that, hang on to them.

Its not that no one will take you for a serious shooting enthusiast. It is much more important than that. It is that no one will take you seriously as a man. There, simple really!

I am another one of those 1911 buts out there. Not that I believe that makes me a serious shooter. Shooting 1000+ rounds per month does that. I just love the 1911 over all other handguns and besides my Tok in 7.62x25 I sold all my other handguns and replaced them with 1911's. I have also found myself shooting a lot of Bolt action war rifles and AK47s.. oh and the FAL.....

If you know anyone with a Mauser do NOT shoot it. You will find yourself buying them at every show you see.

'Impulse buy & I go hand & hand, so don't worry much about that As for you collection:
1. That SA loaded is a nice 1911 - you should shoot it more...but really, if you're not there yet in your shooting, no real hurry. We all evolve to the 1911 and give it a whirl. It's an awesome platform that many appreciate. Put it away until you're ready to give it a realy honest chance
2. The P2000 I really like HK product & the P2000 is no diff't. Good choice w/ this one!
3. The Mak....I have very little experience w/ Maks. I have a shooting buddy that couldn't buy enough of those things when they were less than $80 each. Me, I was too much of a snob to buy then and then they've priced themselves out of the relm of possibility IMO

i agree totally w/ xavier. nobody should think that you are not a serious shooting enthusiast because you dont have a 1911. i dont have one, and i dont really want one right now. i could go over and get one anytime i want, but im not really as comfortable shooting 1911's as i am compact/sub-compact autos. and as for your collection being "modest" you have some really nice guns and you shouldnt feel you have to compare yourself to other members. god, if i did i would have to spend ALL of my cash buying guns to keep up with these other members. be content w/ what you have/can afford and enjoy what you own. i love to shoot, whether it be a $150 dollar .22 lr from walmart, or a $2,500 revolver i can never afford, and i think that is what makes someone a shooting enthusiast.

You have the start to a nice collection. As far as the 1911, buy what you like and shoot what you like. Don't let people on this forum, the range, or anyplace else negatively influence you. There are so many choices out there that a person can make an expensive mistake by just listening to others and purchasing what they think is great. Try to shoot as many pistols as you can and make an informed decision on that basis. I would take XB's advice and purchase a .22 pistol. They are lot's of fun and cheap to shoot. Plus, good for practice.

Wesker, The 1911 you've got is a good value, and a good thing to have around. The Mak is great for carry, and the 9x18 round is no slouch when ou need to pack light, so to speak.

The HK is an interesting situation.... Trading it in on a P239 would be going from a service sized pistol, to a compact carry pistol.... if you are looking at the .357sig in a P239, you are adding even more variables.

That round is quite 'poppy' in such a small pistol, especially as my pinky hangs off the grip of my P239, for which I own all three barrels (chambered in .40, with a second factory barrel in .357sig, and a 9mm conversion barrel from Barsto).

The 239 is not everyone's cup of tea. Though it is a fine weapon, you're giving up a bit of controllability, mag capacity, and the rail.

Cute quote. I was just about to reply that it's too bad people didn't bring their guns out to a parking lot like young car enthusiasts do to compare penis sizes, but I guess there is always the gun range! I wouldn't put it past those old guys to do the same.

I think you've got me beat, although I could bring my M1 to the table. My friend and I have a similar arms race going: we debate whether his 4" 1911 on his coffee table is manlier than my 5" XD9 at a practical shooting competition. Sadly, I think I'd be out of luck if I left up to the Internet crowd.

You've got a great collection going there, Wesker. I'm partial to the likes of your Springfield Armory 1911-A1...I have one nearly identical to yours, a five-inch "Loaded" model with night-sights.

You've got great taste in reading materials, too...I just finished my copy of "1776" this week!

Wow! Fantastic response guys, thanks for the encouraging words! I just fondled my Springer a few minutes ago and I'm determined to shoot it as soon as I can afford two boxes of 100rd WWB. (I'm so friggin broke). I also field stripped it to see if I still remembered, and got some oil and fouling stains on our WHITE comforter Oh well, we're due for another one anyway

I really wish I was able to shoot long guns because there are some very nice bolt actions at my candy shop, and this fabulous SOCOM M1 with just the right amount of accessories: ONE E.O. Tech holosight!

I think I'm set on handguns for a good while now, as I have the most universally practical calibers, .45 and 9mm. Both effective at man-stoppage and one I can afford to shoot pretty frequently.

One more thing, to denfoote. You should shoot your springer every chance you get. They only get better with more use and proper care, and each time you do you'll shoot perfectly because it will be like your mom is there with you.

You got yourself quite a nice collection.

That Springer will give you a lot of smiles once you keep shooting it. Take it out and really try your best for some groups. 1911s fit many peoples hand, and theres a huge cult following for a reason. I might be a little biased, since I primarily shoot 1911s, carry 1911s and rave all 1911s. Fiddle with it a little, if the recoil is a bit much from the 230 gr. 45, try the WWB 185 gr. It's a lot softer, and might find it more enjoyable to shoot. Within time, it'll grow on you.

The P2000 is a fantastic gun. I find it very enjoyable to shoot, except for the really heavy and gritty double action. In single action, for regular range use it's quite a enjoyable shooter. I think mainly because yours is chambered in .357 SIG the gun is not as comfortable to shoot as a 9mm. My 9mm P2K is surprisingly soft to shoot, even in a polymer frame. Honestly, it is up there with my SIG P226, which is what you're looking at. If you're looking for a soft shooting target gun, well... you should look into something fullsize. Longer sight radius, little heavier and usually easier to shoot.

I did notice that you didn't have a gun chambered in 9x19. That's what I feel you're really missing out on. If you can convert the P2K to 9mm, that would be an awesome shooter. Or look at the CPO SIGs and pick yourself up a fullsize P226 for around $500.

Maks are good guns, but they're not really my thing. I'm not much of an oddball caliber type. Its .22, 9mm and .45 for me

Great Choice, I love David McCullough's 1776. His John Adams and Truman are enjoyable works as well. I recently found that he has written a book on the digging of the Panama Canal. I plan to add that to my collection soon...Oooooh, you were wanting responses to the guns. Sorry.
