Friend and I were discussing the theories behind the springs in my Sig P229 .40S&W. If I increase the power of my recoil spring from 16lbs to 19lbs, then the felt recoil axis will lower into the frame and reduce muzzle flip, and cause for faster cycle times. This will require a stronger magazine spring to compensate for the faster reloading times. Then decrease the hammer spring from 24lbs to 20lbs to reduce trigger pull, which will inherently increase accuracy. Is this line of thinking correct?

Stronger recoil spring can also slow down the unlocking so any gain in the lockup and recovery may be lost. Same with stronger magazine spring. The magazine spring pushes up on the cartridge, creating greater resistence to unlocking. Certainly it's minimal, but these factors are considered at the factory in trying to build a gun that is reliable. Then we non-gunsmiths mess things up by trying to second guess the factory engineers. :p

BTW, Sig-Sauer graphs the spring tension and finds the most reliable for that particular gun. Even if you were to change the recoil guide rod spring, which Sig does for one model (with its green spring), no other springs are changed or offered by the factory.
