I may purchase my first gun within the next couple of years or so. That said, my biggest concern safety. I've heard some stories of people who forgot that there was a bullet still in the chamber.... and some bad things happened. :uhoh:

Are there any autoloaders that do not contain a chamber? (It seems that it might be safer if a gun loaded some other way).

the chamber is simply the space that contains the cartridge when it is ready to be fired. without a chamber, you couldn't have a gun, so i'm really not sure what your question is.

Phriend,

If you need a gun soon, might I suggest you consider a revolver? It's a good gun type when you need to learn about guns yet still have a very effective defense gun.

Thanks and good luck.

Hmmm...if someone needs a gun for defense and needs it soon, then whom could they contact locally for good advice? An NRA Rep? Maybe a Website?

Who?

im sorry if you dont know what a chamber is. skip buying a gun, and take a course.

if you need a gun, contact the police. find out the local laws, and if its a threat from a person file some kind of report. establish a paper trail.

the best bet for some one so new to guns is the good old 12 guage pump action. easy to get compared to a pistol. easier to use for HD than most rifles

Here's a cutaway view of a pistol.
The cartridge in the barrel is in that portion of the barrel called the chamber.
The chamber is milled to hold the case.
After pulling the trigger the used and empty case is ejected from the chamber and a new cartridge pushed into the chamber.
