Do any of you guys buy guns that have no practicality?

JS, I recently purchased such a pistol. It has no potential for CCW and short of making one there is not a holster for it. The pistol is a Bushmaster C15P21S. Only reason I have it is because I wanted it, just to say I own one.
That and it is almost perfect for my 12 yr old daughter to shoot. By the way, I also purchased (2) 100 rd BETA mags for it.

Ok.

#1 - Michael Stern, what is that? I too have an unreasonable attraction to single shot .22s... unfortunately it's mainly rifles.

#2 - ever see the COP .357 four barrel derringer? Need I say more?

QuarterBoreGunner: it's an H&R U.S.R.A. single-shot 22 with Roper target stocks. Based on the serial number, it's one of the very last ones made. Here it is (center) with an earlier version above (note the different barrel profile) and an Ultra Sportsman 9-shot single-action, below.

IMHO, any firearm has some arguable practical use, even if I don't personally shoot Bullseye matches, hunt the 'Big Five', or imagine myself to be some sort of Mall Ninja SOCOM 'operator'.

That said, I have to admit to having a weakness for unusual machinery. Especially those which perform their designed tasks in novel ways or with particular panache. What constitutes 'elegance' in design is quite relative and most subjective, IMO.

I have a Winchester M52-C. I haven't shot a smallbore match since I was a Boy Scout.

I have a Marlin '95 G, even though I'd have to travel out-of-state to hunt with it, and have no interest in going to Alaska, Asia, Africa or anywhere else to kill something simply to be able to say that I did.

I have more than twenty different .22 RFs in assorted makes and action styles. Hard to rationalize in terms of 'need', but I like 'em.

I have a Garand, several Enfields, a K-31, a Mini-30, four SKSes, and an eclectic assortment of swords and edged weapons, even though my 'warrior' days are long-past and, hopefully, highly unlikely to return.

I have enough handguns to carry a different one every day for a month and more. Only three of them actually get much in the way of regular CCW use.

So, yeah I guess that you could say that I buy guns for which I don't have an immediate 'practical' rationale. My big problem is not having the funds to do more of it.

The other day I saw a single shot 1902 Winchester .22 rifle that had been cut down and mounted in what looked like a flintlock style stock, making a pistol... a single shot, bolt action, hand cocked .22 pistol nearly a foot long. Almost bought it just for the heck of it. Still trying to think of a reason I should. Maybe if I could put a scope on it...

Yeah, the most useless pistol I've ever seen and I want it.

Yes, I have owned only revolvers (except for my Ruger .22) until this past Christmas. With the expiration of the AWB, I figured I had to get a wondernine with a hi cap magazine. I got a Ruger P95 and have only shot two magazines through it to see if it worked properly. It has been in my closet ever since, and I do not see myself shooting it anytime soon. Nice gun and I like it, but I really had no use for it other than wanting it. It is not the first gun I have bought that I did not need and probably won't be the last. I think it is a sickness.

NAA 22 Short because it was cute. It has some really deep tertiary BUG usage but I bought it just because.

Practicality is what amature collectors cling to before admitting to their addiction. Don't worry, it only bothers you for a little while

Let's try the S&W 647 pic again. John

Don't know why, but I reaaaly need one of those SRH Alaskans, too. Of course as soon as I get it I;ll have to send it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay up north to have the moon clip conversion done to it,

Not me - I need 3 .357s, 2 .41 mags, 2 .44 mags, 3 1911s and that is why I am buying a 1917 Colt in .45 acp and ordering auto rim brass and shellholder. Yep - definitely need them all. :uhoh:

The most useless pistol I've ever seen ? How about the one I couldn't resist last Saturday: 1881 Johnson & Bye "American Bull Dog" DA only 5 shot revolver in .32 S&W short (Black Powder loads only). And, it's broken.
(but it only needs a spring or two, probably)
But it has really cool 1880's grips with big eagles holding bunches of arrows.

I spent some of the money I was saving for new tires. :)

Gotta buy more..... want more... need more

Buying a gun is like getting a drug fix for me. I've got about 25 pistols alone, some of which never leave the safe. It all started when I discovered that you could buy a black powder gun over the phone and it would be shipped to your door. One turned into two, and then it was like they were breeding in the safe. If one is good, two is better. no..... make that three,...... no four.... well you get the Idea. I could not possibly need, or use all of them, but I can't part with them either.

If you really want a useless must have..... Dixie Gun Works has a 12gauge single shot percussion pistol called the Konig. Who wouldn't want 12gauge hand cannon.

1858remington,
Is that target rimfire pistol in the second pic an IZH-35? If it is, how do you like it? If it isn't, what is it?

I have been thinking about getting a true target .22lr like the IZH to replace my RUger MKII. Is it worth it?

Owning a wonderful tool, wonderful machine, is simply wonderful.

None of my guns is useless.
