I'm looking for a stainless/synthetic rifle in 243 in left hand and the only manufacturer to offer it is Tikka.

How's their quality compare to the Remington 700 BDL? (The only big game bolt action I've owned.)

The Tikka is superior to the Remington 700 in every way (accuracy, fit-n-finish, balance), and is much more nicely finished than the Savage. Throw the bolt on a Savage and a Tikka, and you'll immediately confront the difference.

Savage's are excellent for the price and they are accurate, but the Tikka is much more refined.

The bolt on my Tikka is very slick. Trigger pull is excellent. Gun is very accurate.

The only thing I don't really like about it is that all Tikkas are built on a long action receiver. That means if you are going to shoot a short action cartridge like 308 or 243, then you really have more receiver than you need. That just seems a little cheesy to me from an engineering standpoint, but doesn't really matter from a shooting standpoint.

So if you go Tikka, you might as well pick a long action cartridge.

I have one in stainless left hand,223, great action, silky smooth. short throw on the bolt.I can shoot 1/4 groups with handloads.I would buy more,

great feel.mines a lite3,

I have the T3 Lite left hand version in 30-06 and really like it. Shoots well, carries well for hunting. My only complaint is the price of spare magazines.

I have the T3 in 300 WSM, and I'm still amazed by the accuracy of this rifle. Great action and trigger. I'd buy another one.

I have a Tikka T3 Hunter in 7mm Rem Mag and another in 308 Win. Both are outstandingly accurate rifles. I am confident in both and they have both accounted for game. I used my 7mm and took a doe at a little over 300 yards last weekend, accuracy is outstanding. I would not hesitate to buy another if I needed another rifle. Only down side is magazines, sometimes hard to find and are a little expensive. You may also look into the Browning X-bolt, supposed to be really nice.

I don't have one, but I've handled them and yes, they are smooth, fairly-nicely-finished guns with good triggers. Accuracy guarantee as well, correct?

I shot a deer yesterday with my T3 Stainless lite in .243. I didn't think much of Tikka's for a long time because of the plastic parts. I bought one because it's what almost everyone else is using for the Hunter Class Benchrest matches at my club. You have to use factory sporter weight barrels for this game. One of our shooters competes nationally and shot a 9" group at 1000 yards with his T3 in 7mm-08 at nationals in 2005.

My T3 in 243 shoots 1/2" groups @100yds with Sierra Matchkings and Nosler ballistic tips.

I also own one of the new Sako 85's. The Tikka uses the exact same trigger and I'd be very surprised if the barrel is not the same. The Tikka bores are very smooth compared to most other guns. Mine hardly copper fouls at all. I've got 200 rounds through it and I've never seen a blue patch yet. Any of my other guns copper foul much worse. Trigger will easily adjust to just under 2 lbs and break like glass with a short lock time.

Are there any Tikkas with iron sights? I'm really no fan of scopes...i've had some bad experiences in the past

I have a a T3 Lite in stainless, 30/06. This rifle shot a one hole group right out of the box. Great Maine deer rifle. Super trigger, nice to carry magazines in my jacket, the Jeep of hunting rifles. You will not be disappointed!

So far my favorite load is with the 70 grain Sierra Matchking. Here it is.

70 Sierra Matchking
37.8 grains Varget
CCI BR 2 primers
Lapua cases
seated .005" off the lands works best in my Tikka for all 3 bullets I've tried so far. I've only had the rifle for 2 months so I'm still trying to find the perfect load. 85 grain ballistic tips produced nearly the same accuracy as the matchkings. I wouldn't go over 90 grains in a 1/10 twist 243 if you're looking for extreme accuracy. Bullets on the heavy side need to be shot fast to stabilize with lack of barrel twist.

I have the Tikka lite in 243 and it has been a awsome shooter. The longer action for the 243 does not bother me at all. Mine shoots 75 grain v-maxes into 1/2 inch at 100 yards.

I don't have a Tikka, but I have a nephew and another friend with Tikka's. One a .308, one is 30-06. Both are surprising tack drivers! I know for a fact they they're both really happy with their rifles. The only, and I mean only drawback is the price and availability of an extra detachable magazine.

I have a T3 stainless 6.5x55 that likes the Wolf Gold Ammo. Will easily shoot 3 under an inch with that ammo. In the process right now of working up some handloads.

I can't see that my .243 Tikka is in any way inferior to my .30-06 M700 CDL--it's just different. Virtually all Tikkas have good triggers, smooth actions and shoot moa or better.
