Do any primers hang up in your 550?

Are there any brand/size primers that hang up, or bind, in your Dillon 550?

mine seemed to have issues with large pistol primers. (I have only used winchester primers). I fixed the issued by taking an empty and primerless .45 acp case, seated a 230 grain bullet into it, and rubber banded it to the top of the little black primer follower rod. Works great with the case and bullet, only works about 1/2 time without it.

Small primers seems to work flawlessly.

I brush the bottom where the primers come out with a toothbrush from time to time.

ARperson, take a bore brush and some alcohol and clean the primer magazines. If Winchester primers are hanging you may need to get another magazine if cleaning does not take care of it.

I have had trouble with CCI primers. I have measured them and found that the cups were varying by .007"!!!!! CCI primers make my 550 a miserable nightmare. They stick in the pickup tubes, stick in the magazine, seat inconsistently, and just SUCK!!!!! Federal and Winchester make it run like a Rolex...

I use Winchester's and I have minimal problems. I do what Oscar said regading cleaning the bottom of the primer magazine area with a long bristle toothbrush and "sweet shooter" cleaner on a periodic basis. Like ARshooter I use a weight for the follower rod. I use a 50AE case on top of the primer follower for extra weight and that seems to solve nearly all " primer drop" issues on my 550's.

i must have gotten a good one Ive loaded many of thousand rounds in mine with every possible primmer and never had a problem

I've used Wincher, Federal and CCI Primers of all sizes in my 550 and have not had a problem yet.

CCI primers jammed up so bad in my pickup tube I had to order a new one. And about 5% of CCIprimers didn't feed properly through the primer cup either. So I switched to Winchester. They are $1 cheaper a sleeve, push easier into the brass and have no feeding problems.

I may try Federal next, just because they are a local company, but I will stay away from CCI.

over 10yrs with my 550B, only primer feed problem I have is when/if I come off the bottom of the stroke too fast and the primer flips in the cup.

CCI Primers USED TO have little slivers of paper/cardboard in the boxes of primers that tended to get into the tubes and feeding machinisms of progressive presses. I do not know about presently as I stopped using them years ago. Quantrill

I only have problems if I go too fast. I use CCI because I bougt a HUGE quantity when the gun store I frequent got out of the reloading biz. I picked up 25,000 primers of various types for 60 bucks. I could not pass it up.

The only trouble I've had is with CCI large pistol primers (I load rifle on my Rock Chucker because the qty's are small) jamming in two of my three pickup tubes. No problems with the magazine tube or with small CCI primers. I'm in the process of changing to Win primers, haven't had any problems with them.

I switched from CCI to Federal with my 550B and I can't begin to TELL you the difference. Smooth as silk with the Federals!!!!

I have had a lot of out of round primers using CCI LP primers. They were causing all sorts of problems in my XL650. Probably 2 or 3 out of 100. I'll be getting Winchesters next time.

I haven't had any problems with the CCI small pistol primers, though.
