I was just told by someone that the Beretta 92 mags work in the Browning Hi Power but I don't believe it. I have never heard this before. Can anyone confirm or refute this?

Hello. When I read your post, I seemed to recall that they can be made to work in a Browning HP. No longer having any Beretta 92 magazines, I inserted a similar Taurus PT92 magazine into a Mk III 9mm HP. It went, but was too long and the magazine notch does NOT line up with the HP's magazine catch. Fit is tight, but, holding it in place and cycling the slide by hand, rounds did reliably feed from the magazine into the pistol's chamber. I am assuming that with the notch cut for the HP, the magazines would work. Like I said, they're a little long and slamming one in place might by-pass the catch, but I think they might very well work.

Best.

It sounds like they can work but the way they are supposed to. I thought maybe, the Beretta was designed to take BHP mags and vice versa. I thought maybe it was common knowledge and everybody but me knew it.

I have a Beretta 92 and I am getting a Argentine hi-power so I guess I can check it out when I get it. I think I will spring for the mags that were designed for the BHP instead of being a cheapskate.

Hello. I think that's the way to go, i.e. BHP mags for BHPs or clones. Enjoy that pistol and let us know how you like it.

Best.

Considering that military BHP mags are the cheapest decent hi-caps available, why mess around with 92 mags?

There are probably quite a few 15 round mags out there that are nearly compatible. Their shapes and design all being very similar, such coincidenses are bound to happen. But even if it seems to work, you don't know that the mag shape is actually doing inside the mismatched pistol. You don't want the mag lips rubbing the slide or doing any other damage.

What about vice versa? BHP mags in a Beretta 92? 17 rounders are available cheap which would be nice in my 92FS, if they "click" ;)

Taurus mag release notches are different from Beretta's if I'm not mistaken.

Hello. I've not checked it, but I think the BHP magazine will be just a bit too short.

Best.

Mag details

Howdy
Just some things I have noticed over the years.
All double stack 9mm mags are the same from top 1/3 up.

Only differences in Beretta, Tarus, BHP, Ruger, S&W, Marlin 9mm carbine, will be,
Over all length
Angle of floor plate
location of catch notch
Size of catch notch
Heigth of tab on follower that engages hold open arm.

For instance
Beretta mags can be made to work in a Tarus easily.
Tarus mags work in Beretta OK
S&W mags work in Marlin carbine, except some brands the follower will not work the hold open, some will.
Ruger mags can not be made to work in Beretta or Tarus because of the floor plate angle.
Most any mag can be made to work in BHP or Marlin except that some can be pushed up too far and lock up action.

There are sure to be more details that I do not know or can remember, this is just some of the basics as I know them.
Hope it helps someone
Good luck
Wyo

Something I learned from comparing a USA 30rd BHP mag, a FN BHP mag and an Italian Berretta mag. USA was using a B92 body and feed lip profile with a BHP mag release notch location. It would feed, but a little shaky. I removed up to 1/4" from the front of the lips to match the BHP profile. The Beretta has a much more angular lip so you end up lopping a triangle off the front of each lip then blending. I assume from this experience that someone with time on their hands could take a 92 mag, lightly re-do the feed lips, cut a mag release notch for the BHP and end up with a dual gun mag. It would still have to work in the 92 or you just mfg. a new hi-cap. :barf: Right now given the economics of BHP mags I don't see the need. However if you need a 30rd mag that runs for a BHP, just say so.

Handy Considering that military BHP mags are the cheapest decent hi-caps available, why mess around with 92 mags?

Which mags do you mean and where do I get them? I have seen some South African mags that look really good, are these the ones?

Hello. Yes, the KRD 15 and 17 rnd magazines as well as surplus Canadian Inglis magazines have good reputations. The KRDs are quite a bit less costly than the Inglis (in most cases) as well as the Mec-Gars.

Best.
