Do cops have a option?

In my old agency, YES- we did have a choice. As I recall, we had one
patrol Segreant who preferred too carry a S&W 4" model 66 .357 mag;
and at times, the Chief Of Police would be seen with an old S&W model
60 (.38 Special) on his side. Lets face it, all LEO's like revolver's~! I
know, that the current trend (since the late 70's favors the semi-auto);
but a nice, well maintained 4" Smith & Wesson riding in a duty holster
use too command respect~! ;) :D

And what are the spelling Police in this post issued?

P.S. I really don't care if I started that sentence with "and".

I dont know of any departments in my area (western NY) that allow a choice. My dept allows a back up of 9mm or higher of your choice. Issued duty weapon is a G22 or 23 in special cases though I have never even seen a detective with a 23.

There is a craveat in the policy where a person could ask the Chief for permission to carry something else.

A "Craveat" huh? Is that something to eat?

Or maybe you meant "caveat"?

Okay, okay. One serving of humble pie for me. :D
