I recently decided I'd like to have a "original" Glock, a Gen 1.
So I went to searching gun broker and several other sites, more to see what the prices were than anything (I generally plan a purchase months in advance) and low and behold their are none to be found. It's not that they're uncommon, or I find them and they're $2500, it's that in several hours of looking, on several different days I've found none for sale, not one.

So what's up? I can generally find what I'm looking for, maybe not for the price I want, but I do find it.
Have my search skills evaded me or did all the Gen 1's evaporate during Y2k?

I'm getting concerned all my Tupperware guns may dissolve in a few years, like Glocks apparently do. :scrutiny:

First Gen 17s are kinda scarce as they're quite collectible but they do pop up from time to time.

I'd been searching for a new 17L and low and behold...one popped up.

Here's a Gen 1, not the greatest shape but it's a true first gen..

I really hate you.

Just kidding, but I have NO idea how you found that. I search in every possible way I can think of, normally using the advanced search, and NEVER find it. Especially on GB, I either get 50k hits or zero.

At least I know one is out there.

They have all disintegrated in the harsh UV light on dashboards or melted on home radiators.
Buy up the G2's they are soon to be gone too.

Seriously I don't think so many G1's were imported, they are just of a limited number.

Lol, no problem..

I too would like to add a first gen 17 to my collection. Try searching for "Glock rare" or "rare Glock." That's how I found this one.

I bought a used Hi Power for $475 on there when I entered Browning "high" power instead of the correct "Hi Power" and laughed all the way home from my FFL.. :)

Might be a lot of us Gen.1 Glock 17 owners still like having the original version around.

I have fonund lots of gen 2's they're in no short supply, I've noticed about 1/4 of them are being sold as gen 1's to.
It's very easy to tell the difference between a Gen 1 and a Gen 2. A fool and his money were lucky to get together in the first place.

You're giving away one of my favorite tricks! I've seen some good deals on Tika's, Sako Big Gamr's, etc. on Gb.

I too have scored some great deals on guns, being the only bidder, because of Typo's or odd naming conventions.

There are a handful currently listed now on Gunbroker. They are trade ins from DC Metro Police sold by Kings Firearms. Do a search including "Glock 17 MPDC" and you'll find them. There are a bunch of Gen 2's also.

Auctions close over the next few days.

I bought a gen1 back in '86, that (according to the serial #) was among the very first ever imported. I've have actually sold, and gotten back, that pistol FIVE different times over the past 15 years!! (there's a guitar amp I can say that about too, LOL!)
The last time I let it go, maybe a year and a half ago, I got $500 for it, w/ original tupperware case, cleaning rod, and both original mags (and maybe a 3rd mag tossed in, I think).
Before selling it this time, I asked about their collector value on one or two forums, but they didn't seem to have any serious extra value, so I let it go (one time I let it go,was to get into a gen3 G19).
I recently asked the guy I last sold it to about it,and he said he'd given it to his son, who went and PAWNED the damned thing !! :banghead:
I occasionally see them pop up on my local classified sites, and they don't seem to be fetching much more than any other Glock.
