My last handgun purchace was a Kahr PM9. I got it due to the fact that they are not usually available around where I live and also they are one of the best guns for deep concealment. My problem is that I also have a XD subcompact 9 that I still like shooting but stopped carrying. I hate the Idea of selling a perfectly good gun but I cant come up with a logical reason to keep both somewhat simmilar guns. Can someone give me good reasons to hold on to the XD?

You already have a holster for it?
Your significant other needs a carry gun?
You might want the higher capacity for a "house gun"?

Damned if I know, keep what you like. I generally buy guns I want and keep them because of it, there aren't many "meh" guns in the safe.

You certainly *do* need them both! What happens if you have to send one in for service? Do you plan on wearing a placard that says "My CCW is in the shop, please rob me next month!"?

Unless you are *HURTING* for the cash, never sell...

this is an easy one.

98% of people here who sell a firearm end up regretting it.

Good Luck!!

Guns have this weird tendency to hold their value. I could buy a 9mm handgun today for $500 bucks and sell it for at least $400 at any time in the next 10 years if I take care of it. Like Nasty said, unless you really need the cash for something, just hang onto it. On the other hand, if the money would go towards the diversification of your personal armory, such as a different caliber or something like that... then it might be justified.

Think about this:

If you use it in self defense and it has to be taken by the Police Department/Sheriff's Office until the investigation is complete then you have a back-up until it is returned to you.

From sad experience, consider this: Sell the Springfield and, somewhere along the line -- perhaps sooner than you think possible -- you will regret the decision and start to wonder why you took that drastic, ill-considered step. Before long, you'll begin to think that if you replaced the Springfield now, you'll be able to get a better deal on one than you would, say in another year or two, when prices will surely escalate. And not only will you shell out the money for a gun you already owned, you'll also likely shell out additional money to obtain a better holster than the one you had and let go, plus pay for background checks and FFL transfer fees, etc.

If you didn't need the money from the Springfield to buy the Kahr, there's no reason on the planet to unload the Springfield -- unless, of course, you want to replace it with something that you might want more. And if that's the case, why ask us?

9mmepiphany you definately do not need two small 9mms. I however, need a 3rd. My new Glock 19RTF2 and my Taurus Slim need a new friend and I believe yours might get along with them.

You can never have too many guns, especially if they are of the same caliber. You only have to buy one type of bullet and they work for both guns. If the sh!$ ever hits the fan or the zombies attack, you can give your significant other one of the 9's and use the same rounds without mixing them up. Never get rid of a gun, unless its a Llama, then you can throw it over a bridge.

If you're not going to carry the XD, why not make it your "vehicle gun" that you keep close at hand in the console?

I cant come up with a logical reason to keep both somewhat similar guns.
Okay you've LOST me,I don't understand JUSTIFYING owning ANY firearm! If I want it,I have justified owning it! Pretty simple to me.

Can't give you the answer.

I only own 4 small 9mm pistols, all of which I like and find useful and practical for different reasons. I think I've about got my needs covered with those 4, and I'd be somewhat hard pressed to try and choose a 'favorite' from one day to the next. they all see quite a bit of range use for training & practice (2 of them have been used to fire more than 10,000 rounds, but the other 2 have only fired several thousands each).

I own more .40's because I've been continually trying to find one I feel meets my needs and preferences. So-so luck to date, hence my having bought a 5th .40 last year to see if I liked it any better than the first 4.

I own 9 pistols chambered in .45 ACP, 5 of which are 1911's. I like the caliber quite a lot and plan to buy perhaps 1-2 more of them. (I'm seriously looking at the SW1911 Pro Series 3" and a M&P 45c to complement my full-size M&P 45.)

Oddly enough, when I'm not carrying one of my J-frame's, the pistols I choose to carry the most often are one of my 9mm's. ;) Go figure.

Good luck with your decision. ;)

I have a xd sc in 9 mm and also have a sig P226, I wondered about needing both, but my wife is very comfortable with the XD, so it is her bedside gun when I travel. Plus the fact that I really like shooting the XD. I am nearly as accurate with it as I am with the P226.

Oh Great...I read this after seeing a Glock 26 for sale locally and I just bought one and have been looking for a reason to buy another one...thanks a bunch!!! :)
