Do I really need a .45?

another question I wanted to buy 1 of his guns but my friend wants to sell both of his .45's one is S&W 1911 with a tactical rail w/5 mags, and the other is a Springfield XD w/2 mags and wants 700.00 for both does this price seem ok?

What is the point of this post? Its kinda silly to be asking us if you need a .45. The simplest answer is to try one out at a place the rents firearms, or from a friend.

Do you need one for self defense? No. With the right ammo, a .40 will do the job just as well as a .45.

Do you need one because all the cool people have one? Yep.

You may not need a 45: but at that price, you will need protection from the rest of us if you don't buy! Too good a deal to pass up, and excellent opportunity to test drive without pain; you can recover your$ I think easily.

Just to put things in context, I just bought a S&W1911 last week (NIB, on sale) for $719 before tax. Like the man said earlier, I'd buy both and sell the XD. Once you let that first shot off from that 1911, you'll wonder how you ever lived without a .45...

I agree... you do NOT need a .45! Personally, I think the round is over rated. A 9mm does the job just fine! And, .45 are more expensive to shoot! Oh, and you have fewer rounds available.
