i've recently laid away a rock island 45. they're supposed to be mil-spec & the price(275) was right. my only other 1911 is a sistema colt & as the value on this is soaring, i wanted a shooter. i'll have to get an ambi-safety. are there others out there who like/dislike them. if so why/why not. thanks in advance.

I like mine, i have a RIA compact which is similar to the colt commander series in size take 1/2 inch. It's been a great performer all around and the fit is better than my springfield GI .45.

A friend of mine had one a few years ago. It shot just as well as my Springfield Armory Mil-Spec and my fathers Kimber Stainless II. I have heard some bad reviews of their quality recently though :(

I think Armscor (makers of RIA, Charles Daly & Armscor brands) is making the best entry level 1911 bar none. RIA is the bottom of the line with GI style sights, safeties etc. WIth the enhanced versions you get Springfield "loaded" features at under "GI" prices.

I've five Armscor made guns and all have been very reliable and given great service. Minor issues were fixed quckly and professionally by Armcor in Pahrump, NV or KBI in Harrisburg, PA (KBI assembles the Daly label guns from Armscor parts and hadles their warrenty).

Use the search I've posted fairly detailed threads of my experiences with them.

Yesterday at the Charlotte NC gun show I struck up a converstation with a nice young man from the Phillipines, now a U.S resident, and his father-in-law visiting from the Phillipines. FIL was admiring the Springer 1911 I had for sale and I commented that in his country, Armscor made some nice 1911's. He grinned and said "but I want a Colt".

I've had mine for over a year and a half now. It's a great pistol. I had a S.A. Mil-Spec and the RIA. I decided to sell one and kept the RIA. The trigger felt so much better on it!

Hey, Ul... Guess that makes me a Filipino, huh? :D :D :D

thanks for the input. i wish i'd have gone to the charlotte gun show as interordinance was there-unfortunately i had to work. i'm going to the greensboro show this sunday, but interordinance won't be there as they just did raliegh & charlotte & want a weekend off.

I have a friend that works Drug Intradiction in south Texas when he is not working for the Sheriffs Department, that has carried a full size RIA as his service weapon for a couple of years now. We shoot at the range together from time to time and he shoots it all the time and it has never failed him yet and he has put at least a couple of thousnad rounds through it.

I bought one when they were still around $375 new and it was my first 1911. Great gun. Accurate enough (4" at 25yards) and it looked like a real 1911 to me. I sold it after about 6 months to finance another purchase, but will probably buy another to use as a guinea pig when I decide I want to learn how to work on 1911's.

Excellent value, takes GI parts from all of the aftermarket mfr.'s, good fit and finish for the price point, what's not to like?

I have a Daly 'EMS' Stainless 4" model, and have been fairly impressed with it.

Well fit and finished, good trigger. My only concern is the small part quality - I haven't had any problems with it through the first 1K rounds, at least.

I'll probably replace the extractor if I ever start carrying it regularly.

Have a Compact 3.5" RIA. Looks good, shoots good, but had a helleva time with the double recoil spring. Just installed a Ed Brown guide rod/recoil spring assembly from Brownells ($35). Gotta wring it out with about 500 rounds before I know if it's reliable.

Came with beavertail grip safety, Novak look-alike sights, good trigger. Only gripe is grooved trigger and that damned recoil spring assembly.

Stay safe. Bob

Hardly any 'Filipino 1911-enthusiast' would deny longing for a Colt...
Doesn't matter how damned good Armscor makes its clones,
or anyone else for that matter... a Colt is the real thing.

:)

I never have met a Philipino gun enthusiast(and most of the men tend to be) that was not at least a 1911 enthusiast. My best friend is a Philipino and is actually not a Colt fanatic but the first gun he ever bought I think was a Para Ordnance P14 limited. His cousin owns a Kimber Gold Match (most accurate pistol I ever fired) and his friend owns a Norinco.

He wants to add a RIA too though. I always been interested that some countries have a 1911 tradition as not really that many do. Norway issued them, Argentina, Mexicans are generally fond of them but usually in 38super.

Some excop/ballistic expert told me that one of the black islander groups traditionally liked them too (Haitian/Jamaican or both?) I forget.

The slide & frame is good to go,but the internal parts are usely poorly cast.
I'd replaced all the internal part with nim parts,my only advice would be to replaced extractor and a decent trigger, also some night sights.

Also use decent mags.
