Do S&W SW9VE really suck?

I have no issues with the G19 ergos... I have never had an issue with any gun's ergos for that matter... not too bad at least. The gun felt fine but when I was shooting the sigma I had to keep correcting myself because I wanted to squeeze the grip because the trigger pull was too heavy. That can be dangerous in a firefight. It threw the gun off target if I would just try to fire it without correcting. I am sure that could be overcome I just prefer a gun that needs very little thinking to shoot someone or something.

My friend had some severe accuracy problems with his Sigma(the one I shot) because of the trigger... I think the majority of his shots were hitting all around the 15 yard backstop. He is fairly new to handguns owning an XD-40 before then sold it and eventually bought a SW9VE. I didn't care for the XD either it had issues... I am sure a new one would be better than what he originally had. By the end of the day he was able to hit the target with the Sigma but still not too accurately.

The accuracy was my problem at first too. Once I realized I was pulling the entire gun instead of the trigger, and after lots of dry firing, I got much better with it.

And with these "problems", remember that it won't cost to send the gun back to the manufacturer, whereas the owner fronts the shipping bill with another gun.

The ergo's of the Sigma are fine - Glock could take note of this.

Considering glock is always behind in production due to demand for thier product, I dont think they need to take note of anything having to do with a sigma. The greatest thing that ever happened to the sigma was glock suing them. Enough people bought them to find out if they were as good as a glock. Seems many werent satisfied and probably own glocks now instead.

I'm one of those that thought about buying a Glock but decided to save the $275 and got took a chance on the Sigma instead. I'm glad I did. Trigger is a little heavy but some practice and I got a lot better with it pretty fast. Having shot revolvers most of my life the trigger of the Sigma was different in feel from a DA revolver trigger but not a lot.

Glock didn't get my money. I got a pistol I feel is equal in build and durability for a LOT less money. I'm very happy.

All the Best,

I've has my 40VE for a few months, probably put 400 rounds thru it no problems:) The trigger pull is long AND stiff, but as has been said, that's probably a good thing for a DAO. I like it for HD.

i have the s&w 40VE sigma and i love it trigger is quite stiff not to some peoples likeing ,but it suits me fine sturdy reliable well built hand gun

Tried one

I rented a SIGMA at my local range. I found the trigger was heavy, but usable. Beyond that, I could not find anything wrong with the SIGMA.
It worked reliablely.

If you found one for @$300.00, I would say it is a good deal.

Right now, the prices on guns have gone up thanks to OBAMA. Last year, you could get a SIGMA or RUGER P-94 for about $289.00. NOT NOW!

I would not sell my BERETTA, SIG or WALTHER to buy one, but I would recommend them to someone on a budget.

I only shot a sigma years ago for a few rounds but I do remember the trigger being pretty heavy. I have a question for sigma owners. If say you have to shoot repeated shots say 3 or 4 one handed like you might have to in a defense situation how accurate are you? Shooting a da/sa pistol is tough enough but with a long heavy pull on every shot I would think the rounds would be all over the place. Mark

Is that a real question?

I sagree that the Sigma trigger is the worst part of the gun, but get serious for a moment... it's no worse than many DAO revolvers. Unless you have medical issues it is not going to cause a reduction in accuracy after a few shots.... or a few dozen. If you honestly think it's hard work to pull that trigger... yikes!

It's a real question. The question is about shooting one handed. Say I have a flashlight in the other hand. I don't shoot double action revolvers that great one handed either. Now with a two handed hold that's something different. Mark

OK.

I suppose you could argue that the pistol style grip was better or worse than the revolver style grip for control, but I think it's a wash. If you have trouble with one you'll have trouble with the other.

I own a couple. Fine gun for the $$$ and if your patient, you can really get a heck of a deal!...

Their just fine, there is a free trigger job mod you can do to really bring down the trigger pull.

there is absolutley nothing wrong with this pistol.

BUT if i may add... for a similar priced gun, look into the Ruger p95. Fantastic gun for the $$$

I have tried to embrace plastic guns like the SW9VE, but I just cannot bring myself to and so I stick with my tried and true metal guns, even if some of them are boat anchors. They're boat anchors with good triggers. ;)

I want to make a greater point against people that have dogged this gun.

I only wish people that have actually owned one say so, with an explanation.
Yeah, they really do suck, it's as though S&W has decided that they must hang an albatross around their neck in perpetuity for so stupidly ridiculing the Glock when it first showed up and kicked their tail out of the LE market, then literally trying to steal the design, getting slam dunked in federal court for doing so in the process....

I bought a SW9VE in Feb of 2009, but put my first 150 rounds through it 4 weeks ago. Since then I've put an additional 250 rounds through it. I found the Sigma 9mm to be a fantastic gun. I highly recommend it.

They will shoot a bullet and there is worse out there. Hi Point and Bersa come to mind real quick for me!:barf:

As I am tired of writing long explanitory posts, I will simply say that I think they suck and would not own one. No even as a project gun.

Do they suck, no. Is there a better 9mm in its price range? Yes.

I owned a Sigma 9mm and while it was a functional pistol it felt very cheap and the trigger was pretty horrible. Also the firing block on a Sigma is kind of wimpy as it will not shoot Eastern European hard primer ammo reliably.

I have read that S&W is going to discontinue the Sigma line very soon. When I owned mine I could not even find aftermarket mags for it.

IMO, the Ruger P95 is an all around better 9mm pistol than a Sigma SW9VE. A P95 can be had for ~$325 in stainless dress. Also MecGar makes excellent cheap aftermarket mags for it.

Again, my Sigma 9mm is fantastic. Trigger was a little heavy at first. It's lightend up since. Give it a chance, and put at last 800 rounds through it. It's a fine weapon.

This thread was started over 2 years ago. I hope the OP has his answer by now.
