Do these relaods look safe to shoot?

"...is loaded by a guy..." No shooting anything loaded by "a guy at a gun show". Those look too long. Those look too long. 3.340" is max OAL for .30-06. Even .30 AP and its 168 grain bullet.
"...IMR 4350 the maximum charge weight suggested for a 168 grain BTHP would be around 57 grains..." 58.8C of IMR4350, 59.0 for H4350, according to Hodgdon. Accurate shows 60.5 of their 4350 with a Nosler HPBT-CC.
Real issue is there is no mention of what OAL is used. High or Low isn't an OAL. No mention of case lengths either.
"... AP bullets are considerably longer than..." No longer than any other 168.

Agree. Rule3's picture is worth 1,000 words on this subject.

And Ron re: last resort/Zombie apocalypse. Last resort to me would mean I just broke by last shovel dispatching an undead, I'm all out of sharpened sticks and all I have left is this plastic baggie of .30-06 I bough from some slack jawed yokel at a gun show

Really, the more thought I place into this I would fire the things. Last resort as in it's me or the killer clown from outer space or the zombie from the zombie apocalypse you are pretty much screwed either way. That considered, if all I have is some untested and unproven unknown rounds I would use them. Worst case scenario the rifle blows up severely wounding me or even killing me which the killer clowns or zombies will do anyway or if the unknown rounds work I kill a killer clown or zombie and get to fight again another day. So really in a do or die there isn't much choice.

I figure I can at least hold onto them as a last resort or something.
Crazy man, think of what you are saying.
I've heard of people firing .308 out of 30-06 in emergency situations.
What emergency? If you are lucky and the firing pin hits the primer, all that will happen is the .308 brass will split at the neck/shoulder as it would not be supported in the .30-06 chamber. An unsupported chamber is bad news at worst.
How bad can they be as a last resort?
Please step away from the keyboard!
The guy I got them from didn't even know they were reloads. I think he got mil-spec reloads and didn't realize they were reloads.
And you bought them? This should be a clue to you! I feel like you are not getting the importance of safely reloading. Check the picture of the M1A, what do you suppose happened to that guy/gals hands and face?
They are at least seated properly in military brass though.
Not necessarily, to me none of them look quite right. Did you measure them? Are they in spec? How about the brass dimensions?

I am sorry you bought these rounds, I truly am. Please take the advice given in this thread, so far you appear to be ignoring it.
Pull the ammo and reload it yourself safely, or if you don't reload then give it to someone who does with the stipulation its pulled, the powder is dumped, and the bullets are reloaded in a safe manner for shooting in HIS firearm. 57 grains of 4350 is max according to both Hornady and Lyman. And the case they came in? Looks like a grungy basement find. No telling its history? this should be a cheap lesson learned, not an expensive disaster.

This is what happens when you fire .308 in a .30-06 (or .35 Whelen?) Found these on the ground at the range. What amazes me is that I found 3 of them.....:what:

Like others said I'd pull the bullets and reload them. i made the mistake of shooting reloads from a friend of a friend after my friend said the guy knew what he was doing. luckily for me they were not sized right. I'm guessing he just sized the neck. I got the worst stuck casing of all time. it took a lot of effort to remove that casing from the chamber. i was very lucky because it could have been a lot worse. That is a mistake i would never make again.

Nobody likes to toss good materiel, especially when they've paid hard-earned money for it. But unless you can get a refund in this case I'd chalk it up to experience and stay safe. I've gotten mad at myself for contaminating good powder but I felt a lot better, and wiser, after tossing it.

Nope...wouldn't run them. I took down 30+ 50 cal ammo cans full of pistol rounds after not trusting any of them after 10 rounds.

Rifle is a whole nother ballgame....wouldn't even begin to run them.

You could buy a Lee "whack a mole" loader to reload them. But of course you would need a bullet puller as well. Loader $40, Puller $20, Scale $20, lb of powder $30.
And some time studying the process. Not hard at all really to make safe loads.
Then you could fix them and make sure they are safe. If the really are the Black tip AP bullets (not just painted to look like they are) I don't know that I would want to shoot them up.
I would be tempted to save them for a rainy day, when for some reason you needed them. Otherwise no way would I shoot them. If we have the seating depth that far off who's know how much of what powder is in them. 57gr of what 4350, there are different flavors of 4350 assuming it is even 4350 of some flavor.
