Do You Carry A Revolver Exclusively?

'Scuse my ignorance, but what exactly do you call the metallic part that goes on the front of the grip (right under three fingers of your shooting hand)? I assume this is intended for the shooter's comfort ... is it mainly for folks with longish fingers?

Easily removed?
It is called a Tyler T Grip and yes it is for comfort. It fills the gap between the grip frame and the trigger guard. They work well with S&W magna style and similar grips. Very easy to install & remove. They are held in place by a couple of thin metal strips (copper on every one I have seen, but other metals could be used) that go beteen the grip frame and the grip. When you tighten the grip screw you secure the T Grip in place. I currently have them installed on 3 revolvers.

Contrary to my handle (signed on back when I only had my 226)...yes.
A Ruger SP101 2" with hot 38's and two speed loaders.

With the exception of days when I'm going places more dicey than usual. I'm a big fan of the "N.Y. Reload", which would be my trusty p226 with two extra mags.

I really tend to favor the Ruger though. Never a FTF, and puts them in a half dollar group out to 50ft. The Sig is great...but an old wrist injury tends to lead to the occasional jam when I'm less than diligent.

S&W model 649. I figure it's all the gun I should ever need on the street. Since I keep it loaded all the time I don't have to worry about springs wearing out. I don't have a much time for shooting and maintenance as I once did.

Yes, I carry Wheelguns exclusively (Usually Double-action)!! I like my revolvers' total reliability and versatility.
I'm a big, fat guy so I have no trouble carrying a Revolver (open or concealed).

I prefer the "old" pinned & recessed 4" S&W N-frames in any caliber that starts in "4" or Redhawks in 4" or 5 1/2". On occasion, have carried Single-action Ruger 5 1/2" Bisley .45colt.
Also have been known to carry .357mag in S&W M27/28s or K-frame M19s.

...and I do have .45acp & 9mm semi-autos - just prefer the wheelguns for carry.

I retired from the NJSP in April 1991 so, as you can guess, I carried a revolver for more than half of my career (the last ~8 years with the H&K P7M8). My current carry gun is the Smith & Wesson 627 PC with 2 5/8" barrel. It provides me with 8 quick shots of .357 Magnum and fast reloads with full moon clips. This is usually backed up with a Smith M&P 340. I've performed a full or partial "lockectomy" on both of them. :)

Two reasons I carry a revolver are simplicity and reliability. And I can shoot it well with either hand.

My normal carry is a Glock 39 (subcompact, 45GAP) but I also carry a Ruger SP101 3" barrel 327 Federal at times.

The 327 has almost double the power as as measured by KE, than the .45. So for me, the revolver advantage is power.

No, I carry a Smith model 649 more often than not because of the heat here in Florida limits my options for dressing around my carry gun. When I can carry a larger weapon, I normally will opt for an Auto. Having said that I just received a sweet IWB holster for my Smith Model 64 4" so it may get carried some soon.

JEB Can you tell me what IWB holster you have? I am looking for one...for a 4" model 19.

yep. i still feel that you cant beat a j-frame with some .38+p for size, weight, RELIABILITY, concealability for all day wear, follow up shot controll, and knock down power. add a nice flat quick strip or two in your pocket or in a speed strip wallet on the belt and you have 15 rounds ready to go out of plain view to the average citizen.

Belt guns are nearly impossible to reach quickly when I'm wearing my winter layers, so I go with a 442 and a 642 in coat pockets. Come summertime, it's easy enough to carry a double-stack 9mm AIWB. But a J-frame or two works just fine in the summer, too.

Although my main carry gun is an auto, at times this old S&W model 10 loaded with 158 gr LSWCHP goes with me.:)

Yes, I only carry revolvers. I grew up in the wondernine years and I have no desire to carry them (although I do love my P7 and Sigs). I carry mostly this lightweight (approx. 20 ounces), de-locked, 7 shot S&W 386 mountain lite stoked with 38 special +P loads. She has an xs standard dot front, cylinder and slide extreme duty fixed rear sight, action work, chamfered charge holes, bobbed hammer and hideout grips:

My other carry revolver is an outwardly stock S&W 642-2 with 1 7/8 inch barrel, action smoothed and charge holes chamfered. This handy J frame is mostly pocket carried or also carried with my 386 as a back up.

Not too many guys in their early thirties are revolver fanatics, yet I am. My range favorite are my 8 shot .357's from Smith and Wesson, absolute gems yet a bit difficult to carry... maybe one day.

At the shop, it varies between my G19 and a 2 3/4" Security Six. At home it will be either a Diamondback or Dick Special. Most will be sidelined soon after I get done tuning my new SP101, 3 1/16" (where do they come up with those barrel lengths?).
Since this is the Republik of Illinois, these two places and my farm are the only places I can carry. Out of state, and I have two CCWs, I used to carry a CW9 but will probably go with either the SP or G19 in the future. (Golfing in FL, I have an old Charter Off Duty in the bag loaded with two shotloads and three hollowpoints.....snakes, you know).

90% of the time its always been a wheel gun. For the first few years it was a 686 2.5 in, past couple it has been a sp101 DAO 2.25in. I carry one speed strip reload. When I'm staying overnight somewhere away from home I take a high cap .40.

XTrooper, I still have mine from back in the day. Had some others, they did not survive.
Thanks for the memorys ! Some of those were so big you could flip pancakes with them !
