Anyone own a belt fed rifle or machine gun? Perhaps a 1919 converted to semi-automatic only or an M2? An RPD perhpaps? What are the advantages/disadvantages? Do you have it just for fun or for serious purposes?

I always thought that a belt fed upper reciever for an AR-15 would be cool.

So do a lot of other people. Do a search for "Ares Shrike". It's been "almost done" for over a year.

I have a 1919a4 semi auto. I bought it because it was a good price and it is lot's of fun to shoot. It's not like all the other guns out there and I like stuff that is different. The bad think about them is that there are many acceseres out there for it and you will want to have them all. I think that I will spend more on them than the gun it's self. And you go through alot of ammo because it fun to shoot.

I also have a Cobray M11/9 SMG. I got that because it was a good price at the time and I wanted one. It is very much fun to shoot. How can can you not have fun spewing 1200 rpm. With them also your ammo bill goes way up. It has also doubled in value in the 1 and a half years that I have owned it. If you can get a machine gun at a good price, get one, it will always go up in value. last year you could get a Vector Uzi for $3000, now the same gun is going for $5-6000.

Both guns are for fun and because I like them

to order a Shrike.
Only problem is you need a $1,000 deposit and are looking at about a one year wait before taking delivery. But then, given the price, you could look at it as a lay-away program and start your monthly payments. :) I'd love to have one and hope they start mass producing them someday.
