do you have an opinion on a good cheap 1000 yrd rangfinder?

depends on what youre ranging. i owned quite a 3 different ones unitl i was finally satisfied/ pleased with a bushnell elite 1500. i tried 2 different bushnells, one of atn's and they all did fine on very reflective targets like steel but were borderline worthless on ranging trees, animals or whatever else at over 250 yards. i finally bought an elite 1500 and am very pleased. it will range coyotes to 1000 and the furthest i have ranged was a cattle feeder at 1431 yards. the elite cost a bit more but i watched online auction sites and got mine for right at 200.00 in near new shape. i have ranged against my buddies lieca and it is spot on for yardage but his holds the advantage for glass quality. so in my experience i can say the elite has met all of my expectations and the previous 3 were borderline useless for me.

if setting up a range i would suggest a hand-held GPS unit. A close friend was setting up a backyard range and unless it was a sheet of plywood it would not read even close.

I don't have any input on a range finder for hunting out past 300 yard as I don't have any rangefinders that I've ever used close to 1k.
