Do you keep your factory handgun boxes?

I keep my boxes as it helps if I sell them later on since the new owner might want the original case.

Every time I've gone to sell a gun, the case and original paperwork has always had a positive influence on the sale.

Ditto that. I even keep my rifle boxes, for the same reason and for shipping.

I didn't use too. They took up space. I always figured what was inside the box, was what was important anyway. I was at the Cleveland area gun show a while back. I had a pistol to sell. The first word out of everyone's mouth, and I mean, EVERYONE'S, was " Do you have the box" ? Who Knew?

I keep them. If you ever sell them it makes it look like you cared enough for the gun to keep the box, instructions and any other information for the gun.

Nope

My safe is covetted space. Only what I want goes in it, and the rest can fight for space on the gun store shelf. This is one of the reasons I don't buy new guns. It would have to be one of the two remaining firearms I really want, for me to make space.
The reason they want the box is to dupe someone that it is "like new in box." I don't know about the rest of you but if I had the chance to buy a Colt Python/Anaconda I wouldn't worry about no stinking boxes. Next time you look at a Garand at one of those sales, ask for the original box. If he/she pulls out a piece of cardboard shake your head and say no the wooden one.

Save the boxes! Not that I would ever sell one but It would seem more logical that you would get more $$$ for it.

In addition, the dealers are happier because they can then turn around and sell it as NIB from a "private collection" from some doctor that passed away. :fire:

Oh...I sound a wee bit upset about that eh? So happens that was JUST the story from my first pistol purchase, paid waaay to much for what I thought was new. Turns out the gun had been shot to death and all the pins had been put in backwards on a Gold Cup!!! :cuss::banghead:

Now I am older and wiser, all the guts replaced, everything refitted, runs like a champ, only a few hundred dollars later...

So point being keep the box it might bring you more money from some unsuspecting newb like I was :scrutiny:

I always keep the boxes to the new or used guns that come with boxes even if just a cheap plastic case. I have a shelf just for the boxes. The boxes will increase interest in your gun if you try to sell it and will routinely add 20-30 dollars to your asking price/value.

Think of that extra money as a storage fee for the prospective buyer. No extra work and not that much space for extra money. Seems like a good trade for me.

I know that when I go to buy a used gun, a box with the gun always peaks my interest a lot faster than a gun on a shelf with only a price tag to go with it.

yes i keep them. why? well if i ever sell them which won't happen then i have the original box, and why throw it away, i don't know that just seems wierd to me. plus you have an extra case in the event that you take all or alot of your guns to the range.

If the box is plastic or metal, yes, if cardboard, no. Same goes for my long arms.

I keep 'em for historic value.

When I purchased my first handgun I discovered the receipt and Shotgun News shopping list from the former owner and the receipt from the original owner under the box's padding. I put my receipt there too.

Been doing the same ever since. Gives some "history" to the gun IMHO.

I save my handgun boxes and any paperwork that comes with them. You ever look at prices on gun boxes on ebay? But I don't save them to sell on ebay or anywhere else except with the gun. I'm a pack rat by nature.

You don't need to save them in a safe unless it is a nifty $1000 box you picked up for your Colt Bankers Special 22. In general I place the paperwork inside a zip lock bag sealed which is stored inside the box. The box is placed in a larger zip lock bag and I often make up an index card to place inside the bag which identifies the gun it came with. If I purchased it separate, I write down my purchase price on the index card. I also save the purchase receipt if I have one and place it inside the box. These are typically placed inside a book sized moving carton and sealed when its full. Box is labeled on the outside "gun boxes".

I frequently don't save my standard long gun boxes forever. They seem to disappear when I move.

If they came with a box, I keep them....Mine are stored in the garage since wifey makes a big-deal about keeping extra stuff in the house...If I sell or give them to my heirs, it's just an added touch; not so much for the $$$$$.:)

I keep them, so I can have more clutter around the house. It may help to seal the deal if your are going to sell your pistols. Definately if it is a collectors item.

Yes I keep the boxes (although I would have to spend a week trying to find them)as I have a large out building that I store things like that.

The boxes people used to throw in the trash are now bringing BIG money on eBay.

A new plastic box may not have much value today, but tomorrow may be a major help in funding a new gun.

I normally use mine for non-gun related stuff, or to put the factory parts back in when I change something, so for the most part they are kept.

One or two are kept empty for transport purposes, or if I have to drop something off to be worked on. Most have the serial # sticker peeled off. One or two have my name on them so my 'smith dont have to open the box to see the ticket.

I have lost a few over the years, but I dont sweat it.

Take a look on ebay someday and see what some old boxes are selling for...even newer ones bring good prices. I save each and every box...and have bought off ebay and gun shows and I truly think they are worth saving. If not for storing your pistols in so as to stack them in the safe, at least keep them for future use.
