Do you like Dick's Sporting Goods?

I went to one recently to look at AR's, the guy behind the counter said they would only stock the camo Remington R15 because they are for hunting, they won't stock any other AR's because "they aren't for hunting". Didn't quite understand that one, I won't be back.

I got my Mossberg 535 at Dicks. It was a great deal I couldn't pass up. Since then, I kept getting coupons for free $20.00 at Dicks so I would always go back. One time I had a $20 voucher, 15% off coupon and the manager gave me 10% off an ammo purchase when I came back to fix some paper work. I bought $60 worth of ammo for only $6.00. It was an awesome deal.

No handguns at the Dick's around here. They keep the handgun ammo behind the counter so you have to ask for it. One guy said he needed to see my CCW permit before he would give me ammo. I said is this the company policy, and he said its the law. I asked since when and he said since forever. I laughed and left. I have a CCW permit but not the patience to deal with ignorance.

i brought .380 ammo there and 45/70 when no one else had any. i also brought alot
of fishing gear. not alot of rifles or shotguns for sale. but alot of hunting and fishing
gear. i like the store. in the past i would go to walmart and look over the rifles or
shotguns, but alot of them dont carry them anymore.

They don't have Dicks Sporting Goods here, but over Christmas, I was in Austin TX where they just opened several new stores. So I made my first and what will be my last visit to Dick's.....

first off.... they did not sell handguns. The clerk said Dick's doesn't want to get into that... too much trouble....

second.... every long gun was overpriced....

third.... all the ammo was overpriced..... even what was on sale..... cheaper at the Academy and Walmart.....

now if you are into team sports such as baseball, football etc.... or maybe tennis and such, it might be a good place to go.... or even for clothing..... but for gun enthusiasts, my advise is shop elsewhere....

Dick's is a sport clothing store that also sells a few gun-related items. That said, when they have Remington Gun Club shotgun shells on sale, it can be a good deal. Otherwise, I like their sales on Columbia fishing shirts and golf gloves (which I use for clay target shooting)......

Dick's

GI JOES closes , 3 months later , Dick's opens . Same store less selection , higher prices . No handguns , seem like nice folks , but not well versed in firearms or accessories .

The only thing I liked about Dick's that during the "panic" they almost always had ammo-- no .380, but .45ACP, 9mm, and 7.62x39-- it was about $1-$2 a box more than Wally World, but they at least had it in stock. Generally overpriced, they do run good specials from time to time-- one of ours is in a mall, and they are one of the few places along with the Lego store that I can force myself to walk into while the wife and kids spend my hard earned money...

The local Dick's (Lee's Summit, MO) does not sell any handguns. They have a few rifles and shotguns but nothing special. They are often understaffed and out of stock. But there have been times that they had ammo when no one else did.

I live in the Austin area and this is all correct; No handguns, no EBRs, overpriced long guns, and Dick's ammo sale prices are usually higher than Walmart/Academy regular prices. Moreover, their newspaper coupons usually exclude guns & ammo.

Funny story - apparently, a few weeks ago SOME Dick's ads here in TX listed a stainless Ruger 10/22 for $119. Some people got 10/22s for that advertised price before they caught on, and one intrepid soul brought in the Dick's ad early and got Academy to do a price match. (Sadly, it wasn't me - my local ad that week only had a Marlin at that price. :( )

But I used to get slugs and buck there on sale.

the dicks around here dosn't even have buckshot, i went in one time and asked and the guy said they don't carry buckshot. but i do like to buy the 200rd cases of remington 12ga.

the magnetic koozies are great. they even stick to a hefty belt buckle. pretty much one of the only reason's to go to dick's. that and kayaks...

Occasionally a good buy can be had on rifles, shotguns and ammo, but they have no handguns or carry gear, which are my real firearms passion. Although the rest of the store is well stocked with various sports gear, I am not "into" any of those sports.

I liked Galyan's (now defunct and bought out by Dick's) a lot better. :(

Ammo prices are high, but I bought my wife a new set of golf clubs from Dicks for her birthday and I think I got a pretty good deal.

Seems to be the same in Jersey as where everywhere else. We have one maybe 10 miles from me. They too only what are typically considered sporting firearms. The guys at the counter at the Woodbridge one are actually really cool. He straight up told me they don't sell "the mean scary guns" mocking their silly policy.

They have decent prices on ammo but I won't be buying ammo there anymore. Reason being, I go to the Lodge, friendly guy helps me out and gets it for me, but no register at the Lodge. No problem, head downstairs and they drop it off at the front counter. I walk up to the friendly counterperson, they say hi how may I help you, I say I'm buying the ammo over there that was dropped off. Typical counter person is almost always a twenty something year old minority with an irrational fear of guns. Sees me buying 2 boxes of regular 9mm UMC target ammo and sudden her face suddenly turns white as a ghost and gives me all kinds of dirty looks and talks to me like I'm some kind of weirdo and then actually watches me walk like 30 feet to the exit, as if scared like im gonna shoot up the whole damn place right then and there. No thanks, ATG Wholesale will sell me ammo at the same price, without dirty looks or being treated like I'm some freak. Sorry Dick's. Put a register at the lodge or teach your employees some manners.

They are ok. I have bought a field/turkey mossberg combo there for a good price (on sale) and I have bought a CVA optima elite combo (.50/.308 win) there for about 150 under going rate here. Ammo selection is crap. I was able to get a good set of scope bases and rings there for ok prices ($32 for weaver bases and millet angle rings). Shop the sales and they are all right... otherwise I go in to get a good laugh. The guy at the gun counter here claims his 10/22 will put a box of ammo into one hole at 50y, any ammo type.

Find what you want elsewhere and call them for their prices. Their selection can sometimes be kind of limited. There's a couple of Dick's Sporting Goods stores in my area and this is the normal scenario. You have to find someone that works the gun counter or the counter is lined up 3 deep with one clerk working. All of the guns are locked up and must be sloooooowly unlocked one by one so the customer can check them out. The clerk will probably not be a gun guy so asking techical questions will most likely be a waste of time.
I would make a special trip to Dicks without first knowing exactly what I wanted and what the local stores are selling it for.
I would also not go there to browse firearms on a weekend or during peak weekday hours.
