It's good to see people saying "both." There are a plenty of reasons to love a revolver, and most of the good ones have nothing to do with a perceived gain in reliability, durability, etc.

As to the justification: I carry a revolver because I can.

Revolvers do jam.

Autopistols do jam.

So do rifles and shotguns of all kinds, some a little less than others.

Stout khukuris with 7/16ths inch thick spines and differntial hardening break. Rarely after they'vew been proved, but sometimes.

For winter carry both concealed and open I have a Ruger Security Six. For summer I had been using a Colt PPS, but I may switch over to a Speed Six.

I just don't trust any semi with my life. Plus they aren't powerful enough and they cost too much. And they lack style. And they lack substance. And the shoot funny. For home defense I have a Sar-1 AK clone, a Mossberg 500, and an M-39 Mosin Nagant. That outta do.

Recently (last six months) I've been carrying a Taurus Model 85. Up until then (for twenty-some-odd years) it's always been a semi-auto.

Don't ask me for a logical explanation of why I switched, can't give you one except I'm really enjoying shooting the little .38 snubbie.

Neither.

Only the "Kings Men" carry in Maryland. The rest of us unwashed are not trustworthy.:cuss:

Best we can hope for is that our Republican Governor can get the State Police to honestly apply our already "On Paper May Issue/In Practice No Issue" law. (Basically the law says if you carry large amounts of cash we mightl give you a permit to and from the bank only, or if you can show police reports of death threats you may be eligible for 24/7 carry. And even THOSE were routinely denied under previous administrations!)

Man, am I jealous!

Why is there no poll option for "both"?
It didn't occour to me at the time that someone would carry both. Shoulda given it more thought, my bad.

Cosmoline, how do you really feel?:neener:

Your entitled to your opinion but you stated part of it as fact. You carry 357 mags and say that semi autos are not powerfull enough. Well there are semi autos more powerfull in packable sizes like the GLock 20 and 29 in 10mm. IF power is all your after they have more of it than a 357 mag revolver. The rest of what you posted is opinion and your entitled to it.

I have seen plenty of cheap pot metal revolvers in the highpoints class fail too. I have also seen high quality revolvers fail. All guns will malfunction if you own and shoot them long enough. Good quality autos and revolvers have about the same rate of reliability.

First, what I stated is my OPINION. All you have given me is Tit for Tat. My auto loader has failed (jammed) on more than one occasion but its only used for plinking. Both my “cheap pot metal†Taurus 94 and “high quality†Ruger SP101 have never FTF. Use your auto for SD its your choice. As stated I’m sticking with Revolvers. My Opinion, OK?

10mm isn't more powerful than a .357, it's equal in power. Slightly more energy (for whatever that's worth) and slightly reduced penetration using maximum loads and bullets of equivalent sectional density. There are more maximum defensive factory loads for 10mm (e.g., DoubleTap) than .357 (e.g., Buffalo Bore), but the cartridges are equal in capability.

It's not really fair to compare the 10mm Auto to the .357 Magnum anyway, although an original-spec .357 Magnum load will generate more muzzle energy than the hottest 10mm load available today. The 10mm was intended to achieve the magic ".41-caliber bullet at 1200fps" power level of the .41 Magnum, which was considered the best available police cartridge and non plus ultra in stopping power at the time. Keith, Cooper, and the other gurus who cooked up the idea wanted .41 Magnum power in an autoloader.

The 10mm achieves precisely what the .357SIG achieves in relation to its revolver counterpart. The .357SIG duplicates one particular .357 Magnum load, the 124gr going 1350-ish fps. The 10mm Auto in the original full-power Norma loading duplicates a .41 Magnum load, a 200gr. in the 1200fps range. Both the .357SIG and 10mm Auto, fine cartridges as they are, lack the flexibility of their revolver counterparts, especially the .357SIG. They also both duplicate a load at the lower end of the power spectrum for their Magnum counterparts. There is no factory .357SIG load that even comes close to a properly loaded 158gr .357 Magnum at 1400fps and 700+ fpe, and there is no 10mm Auto load that can reach a warm .41 Magnum 265gr. hunting load at 1000+ fpe. 10mm is a little more flexible when it comes to bullet weights, but neither 10mm nor .357SIG can throw the heavy bullet weights that .357 Magnum or .41 Magnum are capable of launching.

I don't carry anything but my fists, 'cause here is so peacefull and we are not allowed to carry guns on public places.

nero: A classy choice!! :D :D

everyone: Either, depending on the situation. If I'm with a friend or family who is competent but without CCW, I want something extra that they are competent with.

cosmoline: my Hi Power does too have style and substance and it don't shoot funny neither. And it is so powerful 'nuff !!! :neener:

Suomipoika, I wish the rest of our world would be like where you live now. It would be great, But it isn't.
There are some real BG's out there will ill intent.

Yes, here in my place iis very peacefull. No drugs on our village. And a baseballbat is better than a gun, 'cause of our gun laws and hoplofobic press & government. If you shoot somebody (even if you are in great danger) you lose your guns and you may get a charge (or what you say when you are accused).

Marko

I concur. For the record, please don't interpret my post as a bash on the 10mm. I think it's a great round, just a little misunderstood.

I would have to disagree. Can you show me a 357 mag that can launch a 200 grain bullet at 1200 fps or a 180 grain bullet at 1400 fps.
