I'm curious about how many folks converted from semi auto to revolver or revolver to semi auto over time. Add stories if you wish.

In my case I thought that revolvers looked clumsy and highly non-ergonomic. My first 3 to 4 months of shooting handguns were 100% semi auto and my first gun was a CZ Shadow as I knew I was going to get into IPSC production shooting. And my semi auto .22 for practice was on its way as well as I was in negotiations to get my first 1911 in .45acp.

Then one day I wanted to do something different at the Rent-A-Gun range where I'm a member. I was going to get a box of shot shells and shred some targets and decided that I'd done that enough. So I bought a box of .38Spl and took out a 4 inch barrel S&W Model 19 just to see if they were as horrible as they looked. Well..... half way through the second cylinder I was totally hooked.

I didn't jump up and sell the semis but I became an instant fan of wheelguns. Since then I also took up cowboy action shooting and developed a perverse taste for black powder C&B revolvers. So while my collection is now biased towards revolvers based purely on numbers I do love my semis as well.

I grew up shooting revolvers, and as a young man I stuck with revolvers.
But somewhere around my mid 30's I started getting more interested in auto-loaders.
These days, mid 40's, I only have a few revolvers still in the arsenal and I'm considering selling those.

Got my first pistol when I was 16, It was a helwan brigadier, and still have it to this day. Have always been attracted to autos . I have owned a few revolvers, but always ended up horsetrading them for autos...Right now, I only own 5 pistols, all of them autos...

I started with semiautos and have mainly stayed with them, although I have and enjoy shooting revolvers. At last count I have 8 handguns, of which 6 are autos and 2 are revolvers.

I've always collected and enjoyed both equally. If I recall correctly, right from the start my first handgun was an auto and my second a revolver. My collection has expanded in a similar fashion ever since.

I enjoy both but greatly prefer semi-autos. I just like the mechanical aspect of them, and of course capacity is also a bonus for most semi-autos, but you don't have to go sweeping up brass after a range session with a wheel gun.

I started with revolvers, which I like shooting for fun. Most of what I have now are semi autos.
I still love wheelguns, but I'm down to 2.
You shot one of the nicest S&W handguns ever made IMO. Once you learn to shoot revolvers in DA, they are a blast to shoot! :D

First gun was a Llama Mini-Max 9mm. Wish I hadn't sold it. It would have made a good carry piece and shot reliably. One has to learn to appreciate the elegance of a revolver. I keep big bore revolvers for hunting/plinking and autos for defense.

SG, I've actually done well at DA thanks to using the revolver in our monthly Speed Steel matches. I can pretty much shoot as well in DA as in SA. In fact I'd say that on the whole I likely shoot in DA a touch better than SA. I manage that by pretty much staging the trigger and then just give it that extra little bit.

.... which probably means I need to practice my SA shooting some more.

The experience with the rental 19 led me to buying a 6inch 19-3 of my own. And yes, they are truly wonderful guns by any standard.

I started out with revolvers, switched to mainly semi-autos, added a few more revolvers over the years, and nowadays find myself enjoying a renewed interest in single action handguns.

The first gun I ever bought was a S&W Mod 60 snubby about a quarter century ago. I still have it and a Ruger GP100. All the rest of my handguns are semi-autos. Wheel guns are fun to play with at the range, but I shoot semi's much more accurately.

Started with semi-autos, later added revolvers. The semis still make 75% of my stock. However, the older I get the less I like back-aching collecting of cases and the more I enjoy revolvers. My wife and kids prefer semis.

Started with a model 10 by pure luck

Since then i've bought mostly revolvers with only two autos in the stable.
My carry is a hi-cap 9mm though.

I started with a 1911 in 1982 or 1983, and thought it was the one best handgun; seeing revolvers as obsolescent, if not obsolete. I was required to use revolvers at work for at least the first year of service, 1984-'85, however, and learned to really appreciate them. I now own a mix, with more revolvers than autos. The greater total of revolvers is largely due to an interest in single action sixguns.

You need another poll option. Those who started with autos, still only have autos, but DO have a desire for a revolver. That's me.

You need some more catagories.
I started into handguns with a semi-auto pistol, and now have both semi's and revolvers. I don't prefer one over the other.

I started with cap guns at age 4 and a bb rifle at age 5. That would be 1954 and 1955. I bought my first hangun in '71, a Ruger Single-Six Convertible. All the handguns I'd been exposed to at that point had been revolvers, but we were almost exclusively a shotgun and rifle family.

But the cap guns looked like revolvers. :)

I started with a single shot 22 Zip gun I made when I was a young teenager.

My first store bought gun was either a 38 Webley revolver, or a Beretta .25, that I bought through the mail when I was a little older teenager.
I don't remember which gun I bought first.

(In the good old days you could order guns through magazine ads and they were delivered to your door by the Post Office. You could even buy guns from the government.
Funny how when guns were so cheap and available to everyone there were no school shooting, etc. )

I'm curious about how many folks converted from semi auto to revolver or revolver to semi auto over time. Add stories if you wish.
So I never converted from one type gun to the other. I always shot both and still do.

Started out with

Age 12-13
A borrowed HiStandard DUra-Matic
Semi-Auto .22 LR 10 shot mag.

First handgun I paid for:
Age 13 through my teens on the farm
S&W Model 18 DA/SA Revolver .22 LR 6 shot

USN in my 20s

Qualified with the M1911A1

These days:

S&W 617 .22 LR 10 SHot replaces the olf Mod 18

ALso Model 625 5" Bbl. .45 ACP replaces a 25-2
I had in the late 70s/early '80s

S&W 1911 5" .45 ACP - used for carry

CZ 75B 9mm LUger - Backup carry

S&W Model 60 .357 Mag 3" Bbl.
just wanted the mag J-frame - nice little DA
and with the 3' Bbl. a shooter.

I couldn't vote because I started with Semi's and now still have mostly semi's but also own some revolvers.

Started with a Ruger single six in the early 70's when I was about 21 or 22 and went from there to a security six 357 mag. Later got a Ruger 22 lr semi auto then a government model 45 acp and later a colt combat elite 45 acp.

I now have 3 revolvers (none of the previously mentioned) and 1 auto pistol.

Would like another auto in the compact category for easier carry. But I have to say that revolvers are my favorite.
