I'm kind of worried that I play too many different sports to become a master in any one of them. I shoot Highpower, IPSC, 3gun, and soon IDPA. Beyond that I do bjj on weekdays. Anyone else have their gaming just out of control?

PS I wish my clubs had precision field rifle, b/c I'd love to shoot that too :)

No. I don't play enough.

I used to shoot Hunter's Pistol Silhouette, Bowling Pins, Bullseye, High Power Rifle, and some steel and IDPA thrown in.
Asthma has really cut into my match shooting.

In my youth I shot some Sporting Clays and Trap/Skeet. Also dabbled in Steel and Action Pistol, but by my mid 20's I found Highpower and nothing has come close to giving me the same challenge and satisfaction as shooting Across the Course.

Service rifle is my only sport and I doubt I will ever get involved with any other shooting discipline as Highpower seems to be a lifetime of learning even as a Distinguished High Master.

As John said Highpower is a life time learning process and I can not even think about another shooting sport untill I full fill a few things that he mentioned he has done.
I might get both of the things he has by this time next year but thats all up to where my mind is in this game and how much I put into it.

I think the more you put into it the more you want to get out of it and its like a good habit once you get a little taste of what its like to compete at a high level you see a few folks ahead of you like Hipwr223 and it makes you want to try even harder.

I could not see at this time doing more than one sport or even breaking it down into several aspects of this sport.
My plans on the future will include long range and maybe play with some type of space gun but thats it or maybe a little smallbore a few years from now.

Oh yeah elk season starts soon but that does not count.

NO!!!

First off, IPSC and IDPA are the same damn sport. Practice translates directly between them, and a Master in one will probably be really good in the other.

3-gun is IPDSPCA with three guns. A lot of the same skills and drills apply. If you shoot highpower, well, that'll certainly help the rifle part of your 3-gun game.

Matt Burkett shoots, and wins, in IPSC, IDPA, 3-gun, and precision field rifle. And lets not even talk about Doug Koenig...

I shoot CAS now and have shot bowling pins while still involved in CAS. I used to shoot silhouette, but doubt I could shoot that and speed stuff at the same time. One CAS shooter gave it up because it interfered with his job training, which was a sniper in Iraq.

Too many games?

It all depends on what you want to be in each type of match. It is really difficult to be a top shooter in any discipline without a lot of dedicated practice in addition to matches.
I was a High Master in PPC at one time, and shot lots of different matches for fun. I just knew that all except PPC were for fun and enjoyed them, while I spent most of my practice on PPC. Heck I enjoy all the games, and don't get bent out of shape when a guy that shoots every day in a particular game is a bit better when I only shoot once in a while. Thing to keep in mind is to have fun, and enjoy it when you can shoot well in anything other than your main focus discipline.

I just like shooting. So I do a lot of it.

I am no contender for any world championship, state maybe...

I am mainly an IPSC shooter. IDPA is great practice for that.

I also shoot a lot of 3-Gun. Sporting Clays and Skeet is good practice for that. We also shoot MOR Side matches, so I shoot a little long-range rifle now and again as practice for that.

I am going to try to make the ITRC next year. Long range rifle, short to medium range carbine, QCB carbine and pistol. A new ACL will help.

I also like to shoot IHMSA Silhouette as its relaxing and I am not the match director, just a nobody.

I shot high power for a long time and it was a lot of fun and very challenging.

Have yet to try CAS. I just cant wear the boots and hats...

3-Gun and IPSC seriously, IDPA for laughs, and CAS to relax. Sporting Clays once a year for a local charity event (although I can't seem to break more than 65, sigh, what was that "p" word again?).

Although I like 3-Gun best, IPSC is a close second.

"CAS...like real 3-Gun on Quaaludes" :D

Right now I am shooting Trap, IPSC, and Skeet (in that order, starting tuesday nights and ending thursday nights). I just got a perfect score in trap last week for the first time, and now that I've reached that point of being farely good, I might focus more on skeet next semester, which I'm hooked on right now.

I shot in a "tactical rifle match" this weekend with a borrowed AR, and I had more fun with that then I have with any of my pistol matches.

Ever heard the saying, "Jack of all trades, master of none"?

According to my wife? YES!

IDPA, IPSC, 3-Gun, Hunting, etc. With plans for nationals and many state and regional matches next year. WHEW! It's gonna be tasty! Oh and Krav Maga 2 to 3 times a week + practice practice practice.

I think the idea is to be so busy that when my wife leaves me I won’t notice. :uhoh:

I do 3gun and IDPA. The only thing that keeps me from doing the others is time. :) I'm hoping as the kids get older I can get involved in the others as well.

Do I play too many gun games to get really good at any of them? Yes, without a doubt. Do I really care? Nope.
